yeah so the exhaust is getting muffled twice. half is getting muffled in one half in the other. it doesnt make it quieter on a small output motor like ours except at high rpms. with my old 3.0 it helped.

Default i got one!

I got one of the ones off of eBay as well, and I am completely satisifed with it. I paid something like $35 including shipping, but this was about 1.5 yrs ago so I think they may have gone up since then. I would definately recommend it cause it does the same thing, but just for cheaper.

not neccessarily. if you run a super clean burning car and a well packed muffler the sound change isnt very much. but yes they all get louder little or a lot.

between the 4 or so mufflers on previous cars of mine. the longest i had any muffler on a car was 2 years. and it was still in perfect shape. i either stopped driving the car then tore it apart , crashed it off a highway , or sold it. so the mufflers lasted longer than the cars. lol.

if all ya want is the cheapest way.. they can cut your stock muffler off then weld the new one on. most shops would charge 20-40 for that.

if you wanted a resonator back it'd be about 75-125

if you wanted a cat back without resonator about 80-130

cat back with high flow resonator about 100-200

this would all be with 2.0 piping and crush bent tubing. mandrel isnt worth teh time , money or hassle.

2.25 on a bolt-on equipped car or stock car will lose mad torque and be even louder.

if you just did a cut and reweld it wouldnt be that loud, or lose torque or gain much hp. it's a cheap easy non loss of a compromise.

does any one have pics or vid w sound of an ebay exhaust installed?

I am thinking of getting one of these or having the local exhaust shop put on a glass pack. Have not heard of any one doing one of these?

I just want a little nicer sound but not loud at highway speeds. Also want a nicer look with a bigger tip.

Any thoughts?

the sound is objective. any exhaust can sound bad any can sound awesome. as long as the inner core doesnt get smaller like some magnaflow units

Stupid question: If you cut and re-weld it, can the stock muffler be put back on again if you didnt like it?

Thanks

yes

The stock muffler has an inlet pipe with a flange on it, this flange bolts to another flange that connects the rest of exhaust up to the factory exhaust manifold. If you cut and weld the new muffler, all they will have to do to put it back to stock is cut and weld the old muffler back on. Some shops might not be able to weld an aftermarket muffler to the original pipe because of the size difference. They might have to cut and weld at the factory resonator. I had them do it to mine because right at the resonator, the size is considerably larger. They could always just add a tapered pipe to change diamater size if you really wanted it. Just take the muffler to a shop that you want it done at and tell them what you want done and they will do the rest.

my exhaust came out to 100 bucks because I had them cut it at the resonator, add a small small taper and run 2 1/4" to the muffler. They also put a nice bend in it to go up over the torsion beam in the rear to make sure I had clearance for my drop. Everything came out real nice. I'll take a few pics and try to post em later tonight. Hope this helps.

Do you have pics or a video of your system. I assume that you have one of the ebay mufflers?

So we are talking about $130 for the whole system?

Thx

So I wonder how much different this Strup universal muffler is from the one made to bolt onto the xB?

I think the universal muffler is a little larger dia?

It says the universal muffler has a 4" Tip, 2 1/2" intake, and 19" long.
The xB axle-back is 13" long and 4" tip.

So it will prolly sound different...from what I've heard, generally the longer the muffler the quieter it is

Also, the universal muffler has a slant-cut tip, and the axle-back doesnt.

Good point on the length and sound. Maybe it would be too quiet w the rest of the system being stock.

Thx
