Default Dipstick length?

Hello,

My daughter has a 2004 xA and she lost her dipstick (engine oil), long story. Not thinking I could get one at the dealership for a reasonable amount, I went to the nearby Pick N Pull to see what I could find. Unfortunately, there were no Scions, Echos or Yaris'. But there were plenty of mid 90's Toyotas. I found a number of 1.5 L engines and they all had the same length of dipstick, so I thought maybe Toyota hasn't changed the length. Well, I was wrong, it was to short. How do I know, I had just done an oil change, so I knew it had the right amount of oil, but when I put the dipstick in, it barely made a mark on it.

So, can someone measure their dipstick from tip to the top of the cap that covers the dipstick tube? I plan on going back to the wrecking yard and exchange it. At least try to find one the right length. I did notice that 1.6 L engines had a slightly longer dipstick, so maybe that will work. Oh, can you also measure from tip to the first mark, and 1st mark to full mark.

Thanks!

It's no more than $15 from the dealer.

Reactor,

I wanted to avoid shelling out more money, even though I know it's only $15.

criminaltc & jct, thanks for your productive responses.
