I wouldn't bother with cheap inferior products.

well, some of them look pretty cool and for the money if they do what they say, it could be a good buy, I just don't know if it does do what it says

not for performance at all

not to mention, you usually cut your stock muffler, and screw up the ability to reverse it if you dont like it

get one with a silencer; trust me, you'll appriciate that for sure

is your car manual? it will sound decent with manual

if it's automatic, u'll only be another ricer...no offense, but the rythmic humm of a kazoo isnt' pleasing

Wow alot of bs getting thrown around here. 90% of them are good quality by a no name company. I've run ebay mufflers on multiple cars for years no problems . just never buy AROSPEED. they are crap. Oh anmd Stainless doesn't rust. If you go with one make yourself a cat back.
Doing what they say. Ok no n/a/ car will get 10hp from just a muffler. At least not nowadays on small econo cars. I love ebay mufflers. This way you can get any style you choose. I have some for sale , just taking up space at my house. If you get a straight through can style muffler pray to whoever it is that you pray to that it has a silencer. Most of the oval bodied mufflers are not as loud. If you cut and re-weld it will be quite quiet because of the stock resonator and stock 1.75 inch exhaust tubing.

Oh and the unpleasant honda sound is mostly because of it being a honda , I've ran identical exhausts on a civic , miata , hyundai and a few others and each having about the same displacement and similar exhaust configuration, the honda's normally sounded like crap while normally the others did not.

oh and if you want to be able to change muffler get a flange put in and for little money you can switch mufflers with your mood.

If the muffler is straight through, it will most likely be loud even if you have stock piping simply because it is straight through. Although, everyone's definition of loud is different.

Arospeed is just as bad as all those other no name brand mufflers on ebay. Most likely all made from the same place in Asia.

As far as unpleasant sound, it all depends on what type of muffler/resonator setup you are running. If you put a horrible sounding setup that was on a honda and use the exact same layout on a xb, it will sound just as bad for sure.

Even though those mufflers are made of stainless, the insides are the weakness. The material inside often does not hold up to the moisture and heat produced by the engine and through time it will rust and fall apart from the inside out.

For some, it might seem quality but if you spend the extra $ for japanese made off the shelf products you can see the difference immediately.

But for bang for the buck, you can't loose with the generic brands.

Double WERD It's amazing the BULL that flies around here.
As long as it has one of those baffles and you leave it in they sound quite sweet. It is also a great alternative to those OVERPRICED ready to install ones on the market.

I got one of the 6inch cans with a baffle while at NOPI from Advanced auto for like 40 bucks (just like the ebay ones) Paid my local muffler place 20 bucks to make the connector pipe and I love it. Sounds and looks sweet plus I still have the 200 bucks saved to spend on OTHER mods.

IF SO, Then I got a special one. It made it through the winter without one tiny speck of rust. I think that is why it is called STAINLESS STEEL! IMO

Remus is a semi off brand . it is good.
And no arospeed is complete crap .I had it on my bimmer for 3 months and then bam the inner core came loose and rattled.
I have run 6 different ebay mufflers on different cars and have not had any problems yet the one muffler I spent 80.00 on (the arospeed) falls apart and I bought it from a reputable speed shop.
I have run these mufflers on imports , domestics , and even my supra all with absolutely no quality problems.
No rust
No rattles
No appearance problems
and Honda's actually have a different note from the motor.
Believe who you want but even precission muffler axle backs use almost identical mufflers.

As long as the welds are good and the core is high quality you will have no problems.

Out of about 12 ebay mufflers that I personally have bought (for sale or personal use) only 1 or 2 werent of the utmost quality. and as I've said above I've run these cheapo crap whatever you want to call them mufflers on my supra for over 2 years with no problems. And I am 100% confident that the one I put on my xb will last at least 7 years. Probably more. only prob is I like switching styles too much to keep anything on for too long of a time

Do those eBay mufflers need to be welded on?

The connector pipe needs to be flared to match the stock one then after the correct position is determined weld it to the muffler to make it one piece. Then the 2 hangers need to be welded on then it bolts on just like the stock muffler.

Theres a few ways. make a mating flange and tie it in with stock and you have an axle back
cut and re-weld.
Or the best option .........
Get a custom made cat back , for noise control either re-use the stock resonator or do as I did and use a 20 inch long glasspack and then continue piping to the muffler. The glasspack will sound better but will be louder.

Mooooved!

I have a custom resonator-back HKS setup. I went to a muffler shop and got the piping cut from the end of the resonator, back. I opted for 2" piping and they flared it to fit over the resonator's outlet and was welded.

Here is a link to some pics (and sound file) of before (bought it second hand) and after: http://www.mikochu.com/car/hksexhaust/
