Default Engine Steaming

I just got back from the store and my engine was steaming and the radiator seemed to be boiling. The temperature indicator light was not on and neither was the fan when I popped the hood. I checked the fluids and the levels were good. I also checked the fan fuse and it looked okay. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Have you done any mods to the vehicle lately? Was the steam coming from the radiator? Were the fans running at all? Radiator fans or thermostat maybe shot if not.

No mods. The steam looked to be coming from the radiator. No, the fan was dead and stayed that way even when I turned it back on to idle for a few minutes. I was thinking the same culprits. I sure hope this doesn't turn into something crazy expensive. Thanks for the response.

I'm leaning towards the thermostat on this one. The fans are not common to shoot carps where as the thermostat is common, and not just among scion/toyota. I've never priced them for the xB but I'm thinking no more than $25 for the part.

Thanks for the info. BTW, I have a Tux decal, etch style, on the side rear window.

Toyota just called and said it was the AC condenser. That is had a small puncture, presumably from a rock, and it was the freon that I saw leaking out yesterday. They want $1084 to fix it. Does this sound right?

Wow, I just Googled it and it seems like is a common problem with the XB. I found the condenser online for less than $200. Now I need to find out how hard it is to install and where I can find a better grill with smaller holes. Argh...

Who do you guys use online for parts for this type of thing? Thanks.
