Ground Wire Hookup Points
I want to install the ground wire system on my xb. However I do not want to pay $89. I am going to buy some wire and conectors and do it the cost effective way.
Will someone post the locations that the wires connect to and the gauge that is recomended?
Thanks

I'll probably follow the writeup on how to put my wires in.

brands dont matter. i think mine are lightning audio or some crap like that. they were red so i bought them. like 8 ga. wire. its a dollar a foot at most and i got 7 i think.
cheap cheap cheap. it serves no function for me

You can get some pretty good power wire on Ebay at hifisoundconnection or bagboy and they have different colors. I did get 4 gauge and the both sell the crimp connectors. I have purchased from both and they are good sellers and offer Stinger products. Chem them out they should be about $1.00 a foot or so.

Who talked you guys into thinking that 4 gauge would be any better? THe amount of power going through these wires... 8 gauges is overkill, 10 would work fine. It' more along the lines of having more strands than the size. I've run pretty big amps off 8 gauge 4 gauge will support time and a half what the alt. is capable of putting out in a burst. If anything I'd ground the block and tranny with 4 gauge, if you must. One ver important thing that is overlooked with these grounding kits are the aluminum extention post. Aluminum does a ____ poor job conduction electricity. If you can only use brass or gold plated brass. These wires will do nothing if it is being connected to the battery using chrome plated aluminum. Most of the kits I've seen on Ebay use a aluminum riser to a chrome plated steel piece, if you want it to work 100% use a brass extention (If I'm not mistaken a GM sidemount terminal with a amplifier hook up will fit. This is one of the things I am doing while puttin in the header. I wouldn't doubt I'd pretty much be copying Mikochu without ever seeing the post. Remember these cars have alt. that puts out less than 100 amps if I remember right. 8 Gauge, even more so for ground, cansustain anything this car will throw at it, sans a huge audio system. Couple amps in da trunk you might justify 4 gauge. Just not pink 4 gauge I'll laugh at you, unless your a hottie.
BTW I did 8 gauge wires today using quality wire (the kind you can't solder without a torch due to so many strands) and it appears to have smoothed out the rough idle with the a/c on, We'll see if the rpm's still drop when the compressor kicks off.
One thing I did do differently is I used a 4 gauge connector at the battery (put both 8 gauges for the motor and driver fender into it) then used another 4 gauge at the coil pack and looped the coil pack and engine block together, and a 4 gauge connector at the block to the passenger side fender. In all I used 3 (4 gauge copper ring terminals) and 2 (8 gauge ring terminals). The whole wire is looped together with better connectivity than a ring terminal bolted to a ring terminal. However we're talking an un noticable difference. I just like to use as few $1 conntectors as possible when I forget to bring some home from the shop.

This is more than safe. Providing you don't botch it up overtightening bolts it's safer than washing the engine bay. I've done car audio for over 15 years, this makes perfect sense and it works. Don't expect any hp out of it, but it does help the electrical, includnig the sparkplug coil packs, which inturn does help the motor.
guys, i have a tc and i bought ground wires like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7986795592 ,
I wanted to kno if its the same hookup points? the manual that came with the wires were so crappy. it doesnt even say ne thing. plus, am i supposed to disconnect the wire thats on the negative of the battery and places the new ground wires instead?
thank u!
