( Help) theres no way i paying the stealership $1200 to replace a cat
I brought my wifes xb into the stealership to have a cel diagnosed and they said the cat is bad and a new one will cost 1200.. eff that lol
Can someone tell me where i can get a highflow one or some other direct replacment cat that i wont have to sell a kidney to buy?
Thanks in advance

which cat, on the manifold or midpipe, and yes 1200 for a replacement is crazy, you could of brought it to autozone or pepboys to get it scan for free and look up the code or codes to determine the issue, but a clogged cat,how many miles and what year is the car
This is for a 1st gen xb. Only has 1 cat on the mid-pipe. I only had them check it out cuz I needed to have a interior leak fixed so I thought eff it, while it was in there already ya know
I realize that, there is no way I would pay toyota to do the exhaust work. I just need to find out where I can get a replacement converter so I can have a exhaust shop install it. I need to get the cel fixed since it has to get the emissions done soon.
yeah, that sounds ridiculous! i dont know where your at, but here in town, there are always tons of cheap shops near the dmv that could probably throw a cat on there for a couple hundred, tops. hell, i got a flowmaster series 40 muffler bought ad installed on my old carfor $80!
I could be wrong here, but doesn't the federal government require all cat. converters to be warranted for 8 years or 80k milles? Here's a link, but not sure if the problem you're having would be covered? Hope this helps.

its more then unlikely the cat is clogged, the car has to be in really bad shape, but he did mention a CEL,which i mention to have it scanned for free then post of the code to determine the exact issue, cause he cant depend on the dealership for that accurate answer, gotta do research and look into the problem him self, just my opion
