My brother got me an A Spec Universal Muffler. http://www.aspecproducts.com/images.asp?theid=6053 I don't know much about mufflers, so I have no idea how to install. I've read around that universal mufflers have to be welded on. Is that correct? I was also wondering if anyone has gotten this muffler, curious to see how it looks and sounds. thanks

It's hard to say. Some of those cheapies can sound pretty good. I like the sound of the Tsudo N1 and the cheap N1 at superstore.
If you're worried about welding, have the shop make an axleback if at all possible. That way, if you don't like it, you can disconnect it at the clamp.

You spent $180.00 on a universal muffler?? Why didn't you just hold out a little until you had enough for a bolt on axleback?? You would have saved a ton on labor, but if you already bought i then its ok. It looks like a decent piece and for the price it BETTER be, so just go to your muffler shop and have them weld it on to the existing muffler pipe, after the old one gets chopped off.
If you want to spend a little more cash and want the axle-back effect, have shop bend the muffler section that connects your universal muffler to the axle-back flange, that way you have an axle back. Make sure they use 2" and 2.25" piping. Anything smaller is the same as leaving it stock (I think), its been a whole since i have messed with my exhaust.

i didn't buy the muffler, my brother did. i din't even know till he gave it to me haha. he said here this matches ur car lol. but what if later in the future i wanna get a catback exhaust.
Then you just cut the pipe after the cat and run 2.25" pipe from the cat to the axle flange.
In all honesty, it'd probably be more beneficial to have them weld this one up as a cat right away.
