JDM 1NZ-FE turbo Vitz RS rated at 161HP
Well, I think I caught most of you guys interest with the title.
I have been looking through a lot of information to find a solution for the underpowered 1NZ-FE. And I was thinking of an engine swap. Now, I am living in Europe, I was thinking what are my options here. I know we have a bigger selection of engines from Toyota. And I came across this webpage.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Vitz
1/4 down the page it has this statement:
The Japanese Vitz RS (European Yaris T-Sport) was introduced in 2001 and was powered by a 1.5 L (108 hp) engine, shared with the Echo, Vios, as well as the Scion xA. The 1.5 L T Sport was marketed as 'more fun to drive' than the base models because of a sportier suspension and extra power compared to the 1.3 L (90 hp) model. Later, the Vitz RS was modified by TRD (Toyota Racing Developments), and was fitted with a turbo-charger. A limited run was produced with a power output of around 120 kW (163 PS; 161 bhp) and a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of just 7 seconds. Note that there is also a 1.3L JDM Vitz RS with the 2nz-fe engine 7-10 km/lite in city 12-13km/lite which shares brakes, bodykit, headlights, suspension and interior with the 1.5L vitz RS 5.5-9.5km/lite in city 10-12.8 km/lite on highway.
At this moment, I am probably the only Xb out here. And I have trouble with keeping up with the lighter, "faster" small European cars on the streets and highways. It's hard to stay within 80-100 mph on the highway without the transmission going back and forth through the gears. Yes, I know, it's an automatic. But the car is my wife's daily driver. I also know I can order a supercharger kit for it and so on, but it's very expensive for me to order it. I have to add a huge shipping charge and 19% importation tax.
I have a few questions/thoughts.
Does all the 1NZ-FE share the same intake manifold and throttle body?
Also, I have been looking through the list of car models the 1NZ-FE is put in and checked what else they put in those models.
For example:
The JDM Auris has the 1NZ-FE and also the 1.8 liter 2ZR-FE engine.
Toyota Vitz/echo/yaris has a 1.5 L 1NZ-FE, 1.6 L 4ZR-FE or 1.8 L 2ZR-FE engine. If those models share the same platform as our xbs, the isn't it possible for us to swap those engines into our cars with minor adjustments.
