Default Lightened or underdrive flywheel pulleys

I got a few questions for you guys dealing with these pulleys. I am not new to performance modifications due to my volkswagen beetle but I am new to the inline 4 cyl world just to give you guys a little background info. Ok here we go does the instalation of and underdrive or lightened pully effect the balance of the engine. I ask this due to the fact that these items in small block chevys and bugs are needed to provide the proper balance of an engine if a aftermarket crank is not installed. An unballanced engine is a time bomb ready to shoot rods out of the block at any time. Does any know if the 1znfe is internally balanced or externally balanced this really is important question for all of us to have answered. Also not knowing my Xb as good as I personally would like to what is the effect ont the output of the alternator and the air conditioner. I know underdrive pulleys rob these items of their power to generate more power to the wheels but how much. This is my daily drive and not my fun car so I personall need these items to be working properly. And finally are they worth the time and money to install. I mean really a few small ponies are not worth the cost. I hope some can get some good answers for me and I will be really appreciative of any info any you guy and girls out there can give me. Like I said I really know vw bugs but have no clue to make the right decision ont the Xb. Thanks.

First off I think they are internally balanced because of the lack of a weight on the pully. IMHO You are not going to see enough HP gain to make it worth the cost. Use it on the exhaust and intake instead. Much better performance gains for the money.

Default Re:Pulley and flywheel upgrades.

The pulley and fly wheel will not give you a noticable # if you look at the power in a numerically and not as a percentage. Even if you get one hp out of the pully on our motors thats not alot yea but the weight and rotational mass will be greatly effected<decreased causing your motor to rev faster and to get through the gears more efficently...IMHO, the pulley is worth it, not many have it but search to talk to those who do, the flywheel wait till the clutch goes to replace that one.

yea just get a lightened if your worried at all about affecting the driveability of your every day driver. Just get the Perrin lightweight pulley. I had it on the xB and it was great, also a few other people had it as well that were extremely happy. There was a problem with the first series of the pulleys that they put out, but they fixed them and all is well now aso there is no worries.
