MPG ON XA Real world Facts
#2
What I have found to be the biggest factor on my fuel economy was/is the ambient air temperature. When the air was 35*, my fuel economy dropped to 28-29mpg. Because I'm here in Denver, we have such things as 60-65* weeks in January. During that time, I notice my efficiency would jump to 32-33mpg. I've been keeping an eye on my instantaneous fuel consumption with my Scangauge. This is a great tool for fuel economy - keeping it on the "trip" mode allows me to see how my driving habits can be monitored and optimized to decrease my fuel consumption. For example, lugging up a hill in 5th gear with the throttle floored seems to be worse than downshifting to 4th and allowing the motor to operate in a better RPM zone. Of course, downshifting to 3rd and accelerating shows how quickly your average MPG numbers drop.

I've had my xA for 9 months now and I average 32-34 mpg. I'd like to get more, but my current driving style seems to peak at around 34 mpg. It's an AT btw. I'm trying to change my driving habits so I can get more mileage out of it, but keeping it at 65 mph is harder than you think.
I'm used to keeping up with traffic, not getting passed by everyone.

had my xA for a month and a half now, i'm averaging 33. i drive highway 90% of the time but 60% of the time it is in traffic =(
around 2500 - 3000 rpm seem to be the range for fuel efficiency for me at 4th gear.
i'm hoping that getting an aftermarket intake will help increase the milage.
