My 2005 Xb is Dead :(
Apparently, there is a cylinder leak (multiple misfires on cylinder 3, loss of pressure) and the mechanic is telling me the only solution is a new engine (all the other garages I've called said the same thing).
Two shops offered to replace the engine with VERY high mileage junkyard engines for $4,500-$5,900 with only a six month warranty. Obviously I'm not paying that.
So if anyone is in the Pensacola area and can point me to someone who would be able to rebuild the engine (for less a reasonable amount), or who would want to buy it to fix up for themselves (I'd rather sell it to an Xb lover than a junkyard), please let me know.
Very sad time.😢

Hi RokBox70,
I did check them and other suppliers and no one has one. Not that it would do much good; I don't do car mechanics at all.
If I can't find someone to rebuild in the next couple of weeks, it'll have to go for scrap 😭

Take a look at YoshiParts.com, they are a Japanese outfit. You could for the price of a $hitbox jumkyard engine, order a short block assembly. That would get you a new bottom end, and a mechanic could move your valvetrain and sensors over. It all depends on what you are willing to spend. I would consider it.
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend, but think about this; an owned car that you love is a maintenance payment, a new car is a payment you might have trouble keeping up with if things get worse. The 1 nz-fe with proper maintenance will last 250k-300k plus miles and you would only be out $6- 8k. The only other thing you would need is a good mechanic.

I spent a day calling other garages and most of them said the same thing; they won't do "that kind of work" on a Scion, and none of them would work with customer-provided parts, anyway. Go figure.
I always take care of my vehicles (have maintenance done on schedule, keep eyes & ears open for odd stuff, etc.) since they aren't cheap and they are a lifeline. I had a 1992 Nissan Sentra (great car) until someone rear-ended it and I got the Xb. Have had the Xb from 2005 until 2025. Obviously I like to keep them for as long as possible 😁
I'm taking care of a family member with dementia so I, unfortunately, don't have a lot of free time to devote to this. Alas, it sounds like I'll have to part with it due to repair expense and lack of local resources.

Is there any update?
