Need Assist
I need to replace the Evap Carbon Canister and Purge Valve on my 2004 XA. The mechanic quoted the parts to be 139 for purge valve and 464 for the evap canister. I keep looking around for parts and the canister assy is showing up as in the mid 200 price range. Not sure if I am looking at wrong part or the mechanic just gets his part from the Saks 5th Avenue of parts stores.
I also can't find any DIY info easily on how to replace the parts myself. Can't find videos either. Any help or nudges in the right direction would be helpful.
It looks pretty straight forward just looking at the locations of the parts but I don't know if I need to drain the gas tank or clamp things off.
I know there was a faulty part bulletin on the canister but my car is beyond warranty at 10 years and 100k+ miles. TYIA!

Try rockauto.com.
Are you sure it's not just a hose leaking somewhere?
If the system can't hold pressure - and it can be as simple as a gas cap not sealing properly, it will throw a code and CEL

Do not bother changing the charcoal canister, replace just the VSV which is about $30-$40 online. This is a chronic issue with all Toyota products... have replaced it on my TC, Camry aswell as ES300. All you have to do is drive the car on ramps or jack the rear of the car up and locate the charcoal canister sitting above the rear subframe. Leave the previous vsv in place but remove the electrical connector and the two vac lines and plug them into the new vsv and zip tie it in place onto the previous vsv. Ten min job at max.

This seems helpful for my case too, but before I buy the part I want to make sure it is not caused by a leak in the hoses. When you say " I checked hoses that often might trip those codes if they are lose or ruptured." can you explain or link a video, picture etc.. to help ..I tried to look for some hoses according to the files provided on this post but I was not successful, there are a lot of hoses under the hood.
Also I believe this is the VSV you mention, on the ebay site it says this doesn't fit Scion xa 2004.
