Sounds like the charchol filter, without it you don't pass smog.

your right frogbox just a weird color for a charcoal filter will the car stil pass emissions without it I assume that it will since the cold air intakes offered by the dealer do not have it your advice will be greatly appreciated.

I talked with the dealer today they don't list a replacement for it in the parts department the parts guy told me that it can be removed without effecting emmisions because they don't replace them even when they get extremely dirty any thoughts. it seems very thin to have much value except to restrict air flow regardless I'm going to waight till the car goes out of warranty to replace but do need all the input i can get

ok so the carbon filter is removed no check engine lights have apeared and the car has alot more power and acceleration I couldn't waight so I had to satisfy my own need for more power so a kn filter and remove the carbon filter in the airbox should be all we need to do. This is an inexpensive alternative to loud problematic cold air intakes total cost 40 dollars for the filter

Cool, glad to hear it. I noticed your not in California. Unless they do a visual, and the guy knows it is supposed to be there your in the clear it looks like.
And mine wears a K&N Typhoon CAI and have had no problems at all. And I love to "Puddle Jump", thats splash water in big puddles, it's the little kid in me.

lol there is alot of rain here as well thats why I was wanting to stay away from the cold air intakesis that wy they installed it to meet california emmissions the carbon filter because it is amazingly restrictive all those little pellets I noticed a huge increase in tourque and power once it was removed I won't ever consider getting a cold air intake not for the price you can build your own and not have to worry about the rattles welds breaking and warranty problems that all thos guys are experiencing

Oh I might add you have to cut the carbon filter out with a razor blade or pry the plastic edging out with a screwdriver I found the razorblade to be the best choice that way it keeps the filter in place and it won't move on you.

With my K&N I have no problems, it it CARB Certified and the dealer knows it's there and said no problem.
And yeah, the Great Republic of Cali does have it's drawbacks.
