Default No Cat = Check Engine Light (Fix?)

Put a new exhaust on the xB minus the Cat. Check engine light came on after about 50 miles of driving.
Anyone know a good company that sells one of those little wire setups that make your computer think you still have a Cat on the car?
Don't really mind the Check Engine Light on, but sometimes it makes the car run a little different.

Anyone else running a Catless exhaust, let me know what you did to eliminate this problem Thanks.

The exhaust you put on, does it have an O2 bung, or did you just disconnected the O2 sensor?

It has 2- O2 bungs, they are both connected
I found this one on Jegs, wonder if it will work?

i used to make these (about $8 at Radio Crap Shack)
they are more for the post cat
you really should put a converter on these cars
or run stand-alone ECU, the factory ECU is gonna be real ____y without it there

I did this set-up for someone back when the scions first came out and nothing worked,
he had the Mustang trickers and the light still came on. Sorry, time to put that Cat back on,

car feels like it has a lot more power, I'll keep it off...
I'll find a way to get rid of the light sooner or later
did that radio shack thing actually get rid of the lights?

Oh yeah the car has more power, because of more fuel being dumped in by the ECU. Say good bye to the Gas milage. :D

Default I'm not sure if this will work. . .

Try taking out the light bulb or led from behind the "engine light". That's the way all the ghetto mechanics used to "fix" the engine light around here. Or as everyone says just put the cat back on.

Well if I figure out how to eliminate the Code, wouldn't the car get better gas mileage if the ECU thinks you have a Cat and you don't?

today's catalytic converters do not cause almost any restriciton to exhaust flow

as proof, even my buddy's Evo 8 is making 450hp with the cat
they are necessary for emmisions and performance
but i looked under my xB earlier and this thing only has 1 cat
i forgot to pay attention if there was an oxygen sensor after the cat or not
if not, you "should" be able to run without it, but I would still tell ya to keep it
think of the emissions, and tha trees, tha squirrels!!!!

the O2 eliminator circuitry is just to trick the ECU into thinking that you still have a 2nd or post O2 sensor
it is designed to give an average voltage for a while then drop about .2 volts then back up
we call it "swinging" (jokes aside please)

does the xB have 2 O2 sensors??????

yeah xB has 2- O2 sensors

Everyone I appreciate the knowledge everyone is sharing but I don't need any lessons in engines.

Just something to trick the ECU, if you have something help, Thanks.

tell your buddy with the EVO 8
to take off his cat and his muffler, make a straight downpipe with 3"-4" piping and run a $40 dollar dynomax bullet race muffler under the car with a turndown, I guarantee he will free up 15hp on his car at the wheels, especially with running a larger turbo setup, the turbo will spool faster and motor will rev faster

Another way you can do this is to 'erase' your ECU's memory. Disconnect the battery cable and wait about 20-30 minutes. Some hard codes take longer to erase. This will also help with upping your fuel mapping a bit. Go by a freeway or highway, whichever you are closer to, and disconnect the battery cable. After the 30-40 minutes passes, connect that cable and haul ___ down the highway/freeway for a few miles. Get off and turn off the car, wait a few minutes and do this again. It takes about 6 starts on average for a computer to get an estimate of where to have the fuel map. You will notice an increase in acceleration due to the change in the map, the computer no longer has to guess how much fuel to air to put in.

This also helps with the check engine light, because in most cases, if you change the fuelmap adjustment this way, it should act as though you have always the car with no Cat.

Hope NY doesn't start the emissions testing again or your screwed But also some of the warnind lights have some thing to do with oil change and some times the sensors under the seat or possible airbag . good luck

maint required light has to do with oil change, theres a little trick to get rid of that using the little clock thing and the ignition key, if someone knows it they can teach you, my cousin did it for me

I forgot to add one thing. The reason why in most cars, if you take out the cat and the check engine light comes on, its because under normal conditions, the O2 sensor after the cat takes readings of the air/fuel mixture postcat, compared to the O2 sensor precat.
If there is a change in this, such as removing the Cat, the computer will think there is a problem with the emission system. Thus, the need to reset the computer into thinking it was like that before.

Another option if this doesn't work, take it to a Dyno with a bunch of people to get a better deal, and have them tune the computer to accept the new exhaust setup.

Just my two cents.

Default need a computer. . .usually

Most cars now a days need to have a scanner hooked up to the car to clear the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code). I am not sure but I think disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes clears codes, but it also resets the ECU to factory settings.

I have a customer who has been tuning his Civic, and he bought a crap @$$ CAI. It didn't even have a place for the MAP sensor. Long story short, light came on and emissions in Maryland failed him. We put the stock air box back on cleared the Code, and now he's all smile.

Hopefully you can get your problem sorted.

Since you don't need a lesson, then saying good luck is in order. I'd tell you why, but you already know.
