This is the same as thoes resistor mods.

The description states:
"The BLACK ICE chip simply re-maps the single most important ECU input, which is the intake air temperature."

In the long run this will be harmful to the engine. This tricks the ECU into thinking that the engine is running cold causing the ECU to compinsate by sending more fuel into the engine just like it does when you first start you car on a cold morning. If left that way it can cause a shorter engine life.

I dunno it might fool the engine in certain cases but max hp increase is probably zero.

I don't know if anybody has reprogrammed our ECUs. I think they buypass it. Unless you are installing a turbo or supercharger I am not sure if it is worth it.

These little mods, if they decrease your engine life, you might as well add a couple of thousand dollars to the real cost if they kill your engine before you wanted to sell it.

The only thing that I would use for something like this is an APEXi SAFC. Its a little on the expensive side but its safer and more effective.

Not sure if this is the same kind of "Chip" the guy is selling.

I Know for a fact that my freind bought one of those "chips" of ebay, got installed in his Mitsubishi Mirage, claiming to have improved more HP. ( Just for your info, these cars only make 92 hp stock) Later on he blew a gasket Not sure of that "chip" might had cause it, thought its possible that it might have.

I'd never get something like this off ebay, I'd rather pay a little extra, and get a product that everyone has heard of than pay $20 for something that nobody's heard of and might kill my engine.

Having just come over from the F150 scene, I can tell you this chip has to be garbage. They made chips for the F150 that started out at $500. Every car I have ever owned that had a chip available that actually did work would cost an average of $250 and up.

All good points. I think I will do a little more research to help out the community. My friend owns an auto parts store that also sells performance. When he gets back from vacation I will pick his brain and see what he comes up with as well. I will also see if there is anything out there that will do the job reliably.

scam...those have been on ebay forever, they are a little sensor that doesnt do ____. dont buy ANYTHING unless there is a dyno chart to prove what it does. if you really wanted to redo your ecu probably need to get a greddy emange or another fuel computer to really get gains, but all in all the only way to get real power is a turbo or supercharger.

another way to get better performance, is gutting your car...but that takes a big commitment.

taking out the whole interior, back seats, int. panels, carpet, passenger seat, replace driver's with a lightweight racing seat. (find the OPERA S2000 to find out what you can do with enough determination, and a metal shop)

Had a chip in my Ford Bronco, cost $400, worked well but you have to buy premium gas or it knocks like crazy and be sure and take it out for smog because there is no way to pass with it in.
