Question Power Steering Pulley/Pump/Belt Problems

I have an Agency Power Lightweight Pulley installed on my car. I just finished installing an O-B-X 4-2-1 Header about two months ago. My car has been running fine with the pulley for about 5 or 6 months.

My power steering belt slipped off twice this week. It ended up upside down with the ribbed side facing up. The belt was also loose which means the power steering pump might have gotten loose somehow too. The power steering fluid is full and I can't seem to figure out what it is. I replaced the power steering belt and I'm sure all the bolts were tight but it still happened a second time. Both times it happened was when I was on the highway, I think. I noticed when I got off the exit.

I'm not sure if it could be that the belts were too tight. Should the belts be timed for this car? Could it be the alignment of the pulleys? If so then how can I figure that out, it looks aligned to me. I'm afraid it might happen again, do you guys have any ideas or solutions?

Thanks a lot!

the belt could be slightly bigger but when you put the belt on have you checked to when the car is running that the belt is spinning straight and not to the sides?

Yeah, the belt is running perfectly straight. That's why I don't understand why it happened in the first place and why it happened twice. There's something not running properly but I have no idea what it is. Also. the belt is the correct size, I compared it to the stock one and the one I had on the car prior to this one.

maybe the crank pulley is not tightened well or is bent?

I think the crank pulley is fine, the engine runs fine and there's nothing that i can see from looking at it. If it were bent would it also effect everything else? cause it seems to be only effecting the power steering. I'd have to check if the crank pulley isn't tightened enough but I'm not sure if that's what it is. Thanks for your feedback and i'll look into it.

Edit: I just checked it now and the belt seems to be running slighlty more to the passenger side. Also, I noticed when the car was off that the belt almost looked as if it was hanging off to the side but when the car is on it is barely noticeable. Could my crank pulley be bent on the inside? Causing only the power steering to be effected?

Did you ever get an answer on your question?

I was having similar problems with my belt, and ultimately, after trying a couple of different aftermarket belts, I had to go with the stock Toyota belt. For some reason, even though the other belts were spec'd for the car, they would not stay on correctly. They kept flipping, even though everything was tightened down to spec.

Hope this helps...sorry for the delay!!!

I bought a power steering belt from NAPA Auto Parts and it hasn't given me any problems for about a month. Thanks for the input though!

Anything further on the Napa or Dealer belts?

I too have been fighting the same pa belt battle and now the Toyota Dealer belt I bought a month ago is doing the same thing...

I had the power steering belt flip and split on my 06 xB some time after I first put on an Agency Power pulley. I replaced the belt and everything has worked fine since.

If everything is running straight without wobble, I'd put on a new belt. Something on the belt is probably worn allowing it to slip to the side and flip.

That's my best guess,

MD

we recently ran into this problem at my job and turns out the power steering had the wrong pulley on it (it was changed out because it was defective.) the new updated one had thinner lips on the sides of the pulley. maybe you need this new p/s pulley to correctly align the belt with the agency power one.
