Default Starter problem

After 17 years and 133k miles my red box’s starter has started to choke.

First symptom: out of nowhere, right after I came home from a drive, turned off the car, then realized I had one more thing to do, therefore was going to start up the car again to go back out but nothing happened. No start.

At first I thought it was the battery since it’s 5 years old. But a health check turned negative.

I had seen in the movies to tap the starter solenoid but never tried it. Well it worked.

I ordered a rebuilt Denso started from Rockauto which will arrive in 2 days.

The swap seems pretty straightforward but I’ll find out in a few days.

Any tips to make the swap easier?
