Default Supercharge or Turbocharge? what would you do?

If you were obligated to put a forced induction system in your scion, which one would you choose? Turbo or supercharger?

i would do a search on here first. theres millions of threads on here that usually end up in a SC is better, no turbo is better. research it yourself and dont have people make decisions for you

Figure out what you want and do it. Everyone has their own opinions, but its your car not theirs. Both have pros and cons no matter how you look at it.

BTW: Search please before posting!

Good luck..

Ok, do a search. He's the skinny in a few sentences, my personal opinion.

If you want quicker, cheaper power, I say supercharge; it's run off the motor, not exhaust gases. It generally requires fewer other components (e.g., wastegate, huge FMIC), but not always.

Turbos are more expensive, especially to implement well. The 'spooling' will require a lot more forethought w/ regards to tuning, boost pressure, etc etc etc. They usually give you the option of much more power, however.

Do some research, make up your own mind. A lot of it is personal preference.

Supercharge! The instant power is easier to notice. By the time the turbo spools up our hamster powered engines are already nearing top potential. Plus supercharge once installed is close to hassle free, the turbo requires maintenance. Just my 2 cents though

your ignorance is amazing.

if you choose a turbo thats sized correctly for your application, you won't have any noticable lag. for a perfect example, go test drive any of audi or vw's 2.0t equipped cars. you'll notice a real fat tq curve and no turbo lag. as for maintenance, turbos require no more maintenance than a SC, and are just as hassle free.

but either way, do your research, and don't just rely on opinions of forums members who have no idea what they are talking about.

I hope you are implying as well the size of the turbo. If you go with a bigger turbo, your set up can be perfect. But it will have a high maintenance down the road. To me, its worth it.

Heres how i think (just based on redline, nothing else. because obviously theres tons of factors to me about choosing turbo or super):
Low redline (I.E 6krpm) - supercharger
High redline (I.E 7,500krpm) - Turbocharger.

Thats just me though, and what i feel works best. It just depends on what you are about and where you want most of your peak whp.

it is definitely less hassle to get an s/c up and running on a 1nz.

lets compare...
to get a supercharger...

step 1: order it
step 2: install it

to get a turbocharger...
step 1: research your a$$ off
step 2: buy parts (probably a mix and match)
step 3: install
step 4 (most likely): fix problems with installation

maybe on other cars a turbo would be as easy, but for a 1nz the easiest route to f/i is supercharging. conversely however, a supercharger is going to offer you a lot less options and will put a bigger dent in your wallet $-per-hp. if you are ready to do your research and are into getting as much power out of your 1nz as possible, turbo is probably the route for you. however if you only want to give the engine a little kick in the pants, an s/c will probably suit you nicely. personally i do not have the time to research my car constantly and make everyday changes to my setup (i wish i did though). so the s/c would probably be the choice for me.

i think im going to turbo charge my car but a complete cutom install. friend of mine just did it to his celica and DAM!!! I understand that obviously his engine is tried and proven much more than ours, but i think it can be done. He has spent about a total of $5000 on everything from, injectors, fuel pumps, turbos, wastegates, custom turbo manifold, computer, dyno time... bla bla bla bla. The list is endless but when he got 263 whp i was impressed. He ocassionaly will kill a WRX or an EVO if there arent careful.
