Default A/T fluid filter?

hi:
I have the 2004 xb with 56k miles on it.
I'm going to change the A/T fluid soon. i will buy the fluid from toyota dealer.
the question is, do i need to change the filter also? or does it have a filter for the tranny fluid?
is the time to change the gas filter on it also?
please let me know

Thank you

That's not true.

You have to drop the pan to replace the filter:

you can pick up a gasket/filter combo set at your local auto parts store, I think I paid around $20 for mine.
easy job to do.

I was told the same thing by my dealer when I went to buy one. It does however have a mesh (screen) strainer. I was told by the parts dept and a couple of the service techs that they just clean the strainer and reinstall it. I kinda balked at the idea but I guess it's common seeing as NONE of the local dealers (I checked 3) stocked the filter/strainer; they all had the pan gasket and crush washer for the drain plug though.

They looked at my VIN first, so I'm not sure if there was a change or what. The other box is coming up on 30,000 (about 5500 to go), so unfortunately I've got to stress out about this and go through it again. I'm still unsure about the differential. It's mentioned in the recommended maintenance, but I thought that on the autos it was part of the transaxle. If that's the case, what is the other thing that looks like a drain plug (on the side) for?

I picked mine up at the local Auto Zone, they had to order it through, it only takes them like the next day to 2 days to get.
