Default Thunk !?

2006.5 xB with only 30k miles.

Running with the aftermarket cruise on. If you step on the brake to release the cruise while going up a hill, you get a "thunk" noise from the right front some place.

Doesn't happen if you release the cruise by putting the clutch in or if you brake when running on the flat.

U joint ? Any ideas ?

TIA
Bobb

Try to see if this problem has anything to do with cruise control. Lets say with cruise control off when you are going uphill and have your foot on gas, push the brake with other foot at the same time. Try it few times, may be release the gas pedal at the same time as if your cruise was turning off. If you can make this noise happen then i'd look into engine mounts and suspension mounts, brakes. I'm sure at 30K miles your driveaxles should be fine.
Is the cruise control unit fastened tight under the hood?

Unable to replicate the noise by doing the above

Only with cruise so it's something there. Could it just be the cruise releasing ?

I would expect so too but the previous female owner had to replace brakes and tires at 30k so I think she drove hard [maybe riding the brakes ?]

It's mounted on a sturdy bracket, over the battery. Doesn't move if you try to wiggle it and on the opposite side to the noise

PS Actual mileage is 36k
