Default Twisted CV Joint OFF!?

I was at the drag strip last night and on my 4th run. I was sitting there Pre-staging and then the lights went down and I dropped the clutch at about 4500 rpms and I didn't happen to get to the finish line because when i dropped the clutch the tires were too tachy and the track was hot. I ended up twising my CV joint RIGHT OFF. The whole shaft and everything fell out from under the car. I was just wondering if anybody has had this same problem? And if anybody would be able to tell me if they found a Limited Slip Diff. for the xB yet because i'm probably going to throw that in.

DAM! Was it the driver or passenger side that popped off?

Default Twisted CV Joint OFF

Yes,I have a turbo kit in my xB, and i'm running with a ClutchMasters Stage 2 kit and the stock fly wheel had to be milled down for the clutch. I don't know how many ft.lbs i'm running and it happend to be the Driver's side that snapped.

Sorry to hear this happen.

On the lighter side, its a good thing it was the CV joint and not the connecting rod.

There are LSDs and lightened flywheels out there also.

I know an xB w/ 145 whp, driven daily, that still needs fine tuning. More to be released on it when its finished. Boost is at 7 psi.

I think it may have been the part where you dropped the clutch at 4.5K, I've never dropped mine at higher than 3K and I'll still do a nice 1/2 second peel.

I'm sorry it happened and good luck with the repairs.

You should PM Matchbox, if I'm not mistaken he has upgraded his cv joints too. He can probably tell you where to get them.
As far as I know he has the fastest xB out there.

all good points ^^^^^

i can source you a KAAZ LSD (msrp from kaaz is 925.00, i can do better)
matchbox (all one word no dash) has a lead on better cv's/shafts... (they are the next weakest link in powertrain, clutch being first)
you can and should look to get a light weight flywheel.

i remember somebody doing tests on luanching rpm's...best was low to mid 3's...(results were determined by the 60' times)

I am running my turbo at about 7 lbs of boost.

Is it true that there is a "little black box" in the new scions? The Toyota Dealership told me that they can tell what rpms the car is sitting at for every second that its running. All they had to do was hook up the computer to it and they could tell that i was drag racing my car because the rpms would be set high and then i would go through 4th gear and heavy breaking would follow. So i would just wondering if they are trying to get me to "Fess" up to draggin my car or if this is a true thing?

I dunno about that one...I will find out for you tommorow...I will ask one of the mechanics but I highly doubt that. Its just real hard to blow your CV Joints under normal or even somewhat spirited driving.

there kinda is a flight recorder...
i don't remember what it records but it does hold on to bits of info...
it remembers the last 31 times the car was run...
(were the seatbelts worn...was the check engine light on...)

Thats what i was thinking. It would be great if you could contact your machanic about the "little black box." I think it isn't true because it would be kind of invading privacy. Soon the dealerships will put cameras in the dash just to see who's driving the thing. Then there will be no more "Drive in movies" if ya know what i mean.

What information do you have on this "black box" would it be able to tell where the rpms were sitting or how much the throttle was applied? I worried that the computer will tell the dealership that the car was being a tad bit abused

Yes, there is a recorder for vital motor statistics which can be accessed through OBD II, but I dont think it has the ability to record and remember what RPM's the motor was brought to cause if that was the case, then he could argue that he twisted it accelerating onto the highway from an entrance. I believe it monitors more things like knock, A/F ratios, CEL's like you stated before, duty cycles, etc.

not sure on the black box. ususally they throw it out in the court of law im told, but in the case of a kid passing and speeding recklessly on a dirt road (idk where) they let it in. it showed he was going excessively fast and nailed him for the murder of a girl he hit and killed.

thats all i know about it. so it must record speed of some kid. i dont know about RPMs and such though.
