VSC/TRAC/ENGINE LIGHTS ON
My wife is driving my xB (learning to drive manual).. and she's stalled it out quite a few times.. and since then the VSC/TracOff/Check Engine lights have come on... I reset the ECU and it was fine until she stalled it again... Does anyone know what this might be? I'm under warranty but I'm curious as to what this might be.. any help guys?
you can take it to some place like autozone and have the codes checked.
but to me, it sounds like when it stalls out the o2 sensor reads it as too rich and throws the system out out of whack, setting off the lights.

My CEL, VSC, and Trac light came on yesterday, took it to the dealer, and they said it was a driveshaft sensor. On xBs, those can come on for any reason, however if you are stalling, something is seriously wrong. Dont worry about figuring it out for yourself. Thats why they give you a warranty.

My VSC, TRAC OFF, and engine light came on stayed on for a while, reset, and reappeared days later. I finally had the indicator lights come on while I was near a Toyota dealership. After a short checkout, the diagnosis was a faulty oil control valve. Having a really tight schedule I had the Toyota folks fix it. Apparently the crank position sensor is also tripped as well when the oil control valve is out. Although its a '06 xB, with 47K on it, I had to pay for the fix (engine drivetrain only covers internal parts apparently). $96.72 for the oil control valve 15330-21011,valve assy, CAM T and $164.00 in labor. OUCH!!! It was still driveable but I'm counting on at least 150K before even thinking of replacing it. Hope this info helps.
OK, my VSC, Trac Off and Check Engine lights just came on. I've not been stalling the vehicle--however, I was just entering a drive-thru car was. I'm thinking that may have something to do with it. I do have the K&N CAI, but I've been through this car was two other times and not had a problem.
i remember someone saying that those automated carwashes that spray water unerneath the car was not good for your CPS since they spray at a very high pressure. infact that was the reason his CPS went out. so when i enter the carwash i go really fast so it dosent mess up my CPS
Take out the "chip."
Check your gas cap to make sure it is tight.
Reset the ECU by removing the "EFI" fuse under the hood for 5 minutes.
Restart the car and watch for warning lights.
If they show back up then, or a couple hours/days later take it to the dealership.

i work for the dealer, number 1 your under warranty, go in to the dealer, say they came on while drivin and that should be the end of it for you, the system triggered a code from one of its input sensors and they should fix you up no problem, just dont mention the stalling...as for iat chip guy, dont say a word either, go into the dealer the same way "clueless" it just came on, your damage may be a pcm issue if you went back to the stock iat and it has not gone off, but the chances are even that it triggered a hard code that wont go away for 30 or 40 drive cycles, if you have a warranty use it, just hide your involvement completley in any of the fault, dont break any connections or leave any marks and you will be fine....never run those iat chips, i know they seem like a good thing, but trust me they are not.
I previously posted about getting an oil control replaced. Well the VSC/TRAC/Check Engine light came on at 52K again. This time it was a warranty repair to replace the VVTI-1 cam gear and cylinder gasket. $185 in parts but $1200+ in labor! At first they thought it was a loose fuel cap...Nope! Toyota of Melbourne handed me the keys to a rental and kept the xB overnight. So far so good. Hoe this is the end of the drama.
For all those that we kind enough to search - this has been covered countless times. The present thinking is that because these three lights come on for quite a few different engine codes, you must know the code, before the solution can be identified.
Short story: check the codes.
it seems there is a fairly frequent occurence of code P0012 - camshaft position retarded, which is likely what the previous poster had, resulting in the vvti gear replacement.
