In your opinion, do I need to take the intake and put the stock air box back on before I take it in?

An intake does not in any way result in a cam gear failure. While I cannot speak for all dealers because each individual one makes that call most of the time of what is covered ,and what is not, this comes down to the tech 80% of the time.

In this case there is a known issue with the very problem you have, additionally the XB was offered an AEM intake as a dealer installed option.

Regardless of brand your intake is, it does not void the 5/60 powertrain for this TSB.

Hopefully you have more than one dealer in your area should any issue arise. if you hypothetically have an issue getting this TSB perfromed with the intake being the reason for denail, than let me know. I will do what I can to make sure you can get it done.

Ok....went to Arlington Toyota-Scion in Jacksonville, Fla. this morning. I had set up the appointment on line. When I got there, they couldn't find any record of it but took me in right away which was amazing because the service center was PACKED, impressive.
Service adviser said that they pulled the code and it was the cam thing just like we all thought. They didn't have the parts on hand but ordered them. He said that the parts will be in tomorrow. He will call me and set up another apppointment to have the work done. He said that it would be about a 4.5 hour job.
This place was great. The adviser, Mike Blum told me to let him know if I wanted to go to a movie or the mall or whatever and he will make sure that the dealership gets me where I want to go while they do the work.
While I was there, I looked around the lot and the SALESMEN LEFT ME ALONE! Figure that out. Anyway, thanks for all of the help.

Oh hell yeah. With less than 15,000 miles I've still got quite a few warranty miles left, just not too much time. It's an '06.5 bought in '06 (March I think).

Glad to here everything is going good, and you are being treated well by your local dealer.
