Default what brand is the trd exhaust ?

I searched the forums and only advertisements came up .The Toyota guy said it was a catback exhaust . first flange after catt , to muffler tip . When I get headers I plan on going 2.5 from header out , do I need to change the catt ?

The TRD exhaust is an axleback, no need to touch the cat.

As far as brand, I've heard Borla manufactures it, but I'm not 100% on that.

That's good intell , thanx . Sorry for noobie Q's , but it would go ; header , 2.5 to catt , leave catt alone and then 2.5 to muff ? Does that sound right to those of you in the "know" ?

Only if you're planning on replacing the whole thing (and even then, 2.5 along the whole way is a little too big and you'll lose a lot of backpressure)

The TRD is an axleback, it clamps on just in front of the rear wheel. None of the existing exhaust is altered.

I , unfortunely , am well aware of the inadequate clamp and donut gasket they use in the dealership.......cheap sons of guns . I've gone through three gaskets . I would like to (if i should) do away with that clamp and run all new pipes from header on down . Is that the right way ? 2" better ? Or is none of that not- -necessary ?

Go Chuck !

Well, if you wanted to go full-on, get 2.25 from the header all the way back with a high flow cat.

Sound $$$ but w/o the high flow cat leave the exhaust alone or go down in size ?

I replaced my stock muffler with a TRD last summer. Yes, the TRD is identical to the stock muffler in exterior design, size and installation. The TRD is a reverse flow design like the stock one, where the flow doubles back inside, unlike many low restriction muffler what are straight though. The TRD is a twin of the stock one, except is shiny polished stainless steel with a large tailpipe. And the TRD bolts right in place of the stock one.

The TRD has the perfect sound. Quiet, mellow, resonant under load between 2-3K RPM and quiet thereafter, so no droning on the freeway. And they are now selling for under $200.

don't bother with the TRD exhaust, just get custom exhaust made with the cat and a resonator and muffler and whatever exhaust tip tickels your fancy.

None of the axleback exhausts out there will give you a ton of power since the rest of the exhaust is so restrictive.

and use an SRI for best results

2.0-2.25 is good with mandrel bends and going the I/H/E route is crucial if you want max gains

That's perfect thanks . I/H/E , just to be sure , intake , header , exhaust . Upgrade in that order .

I've asked around and 2.25 is what I've heard to be best.

I'd like a 2.25 from the header to the Precision axleback.
Hmm, inspections are tricky without the cat, right.

Depends. Around here they just tie to your obd2 port and as long as you're not throwing codes, you're fine. You might have to antifoul your O2 sensor, so it doesn't throw a code.
