Default What filter is it?

Time to change the oil, yay... I'm soo sick of applying damp pro that I don't want to touch anything on the car for a while lol
anyway..
I'm running a Wix filter in there now, but want to pick up a 10 pack of oem ones online if they are just as good, as I have read a lot of ppl say they are etc... but what one!? yes I've searched this forum but I've seen;
90915-YZZF2
90915-YZZA2
90915-YZZA1

which one is it!

or are the Wix ones better?

Oh, and the 909150YZZF1... which I thought was for the TC.
I found a case of 10 of either the YZZF2 or F1 shipped for $38

Just changed my oil yesterday actually, so the number is still pretty fresh in my head. Been using the factory filter (90915-YZZF2) with synthetic oil and its been working fine for me. The OEM design is pretty good IMHO, never used the wix tho.
The only filters I avoid for sure are orange Frams.... heard nothing but bad things from them.

right on man, thanks for taking the time to help out and reply! YZZF2 it just might have to be then..who knows why some use the YZZF1, I see it's bigger now but who knows what problems that could cause...

But yeah poop on fram lol, known that for a while for sure..

90915-YZZF2 is the OEM for the Gen 1 xB. I have been running the 90915-YZZF1 since '07 and have zero problems with them. They are a little bit longer, hence they provide more filter area and more oil quanity. Everything else is the same between the two (thread pitch, etc.).

Both will work fine, but if you want a bit more protection, use the F1. You can pick up a 10 pack on ebay for $38 and that includes shipping.

They are a highly regarded filter and at that price, are probably cheaper or the same price as Wix. Frams have poor quality control and I cannot recommend them with so many higher quality filters out there.

^^hey thanks man, I think you're right, I went to the Wix site and saw that the specs for the filters of yzzf1 and yzzf2 in an equivalent wix filter have the same bypass pressure, size and flow rating.
so I think we're good to go with the F1's as you have, F1's it is!

I suppose its debatable just how much benefit you get as far as extra filtering area and oil capacity, but since they are the same price and have the same specs, I figured why not run the larger filter? It certainly wont hurt. The F1 is still well protected by the splash shield and there is NO danger of random debris hitting the filter. Im sure you will be happy with 'em.

If you do happen to find them for less $$, post it here. $3.80 each was the best I could find for Denso/Toyo filters.

FYI - UOA's show Pennzoil Platnium 5w30 to be far superior to Mobil 1 in our engines. Don't know what you are running in terms of oil, but thought I'd throw that out there anyway.

Na Zdrowie!

Yeah Ive read much debate for sure as I have been searching for which one to use for a while. I went with the f1's, already bought them and yeah 3.80 was as cheap as I could find it too including shipping.

About PP, I've been seeing that! I got Mobil 1 right now because I had two $10 off rebates for 5 qts so that really makes it a deal, from $26 here to $16 for 5 qts.
But after I'm done with M1 then I think I'll switch to PP...

I figured 3.80 is as cheap as they would get, but always looking for a deal on 'em.

$3 or so for a qt of M1 is a good deal...I can see why you used it.

After reading UOAs on PP, I found out pep boys was running a mail in rebate in late '07 for $1.99/qt and ended up with 24 qts. Then Kragen ran a 99 cent a qt special early '08 and i picked up anther 24. So im set for oil for a while..

I wish we had a pep boys around here...
but If you ever see any rebates anyone can use on PP anywhere def do post it, I posted the M1 one but I just checked it and it's over now, only works for those who printed it before a certain time from their web site.

I'm all about stocking up for cheap, 10 oil filters on the way lol

What's "a little bit longer"? The F2 is about 2 3/4" from the top to where the it curves in after the filter wrench crimps.

I don't know exact numbers but look at the pic on this bay listing, you can see the difference side by side.

Hmm. So they look to be between 3/4" and 1" longer. That's a pretty significant increase in capacity assuming the filter is also larger by the same proportions.

It is. I forget what site I saw it on, but someone cut open a "1" and "2" and laid all the internals. The filters were the same style, just one was a little bit taller than the other.

On a side note, my 10-pack just arrived 5 minutes ago. They even threw in a 10 pack of plug gaskets! Probably because they lost the money order I sent and it took them another week for them to find it and get me the filters

FYI - Heres where I got mine:

I tend to use the gaskets 3 or 4 times before replacing them. Even then, the old ones never looked deformed, but I dont torque down the plug like the gorilla Toyota uses to initially install them either.

The inner hole measures 12mm and the overall diameter is 21mm. My understanding is they can come in a few different colors, blue, grey or black, but mine are a black fiber composite material covering an aluminium washer. For your reference the part number is 90430-12031 for a qty. of 10. They are a higher quality, more crush resistant gasket than the older 90430-12028.

But you could get something cheaper at an autoparts store. I think Toyo charges $1.50 per gasket, IIRC. You really SHOULD be running some kind of gasket on the plug, but I doubt your plug or pan care if its from Toyo or not.

Im confused. Don't you guys get free oil changes till 100k on your cars?

i get free oil change, including filter and OIL every 5k.

They tell me that they use a synthetic blend so that makes me comfotable bringing my car to the dealership and test driving cars for an hour

Is this some kind of special deal I got?

^^I bought mine slightly used, so I didn't get anything like that but I see most ppl who buy new get their first 3 oil changes free and that's it. Never heard the 100k thing.

But to be honest, even had I been given 3 free, I wouldn't have used them, I don't trust stealerships with my car for anything.

Heathen, thanks for all that info right on btw if you need any... sparks has them for $.75!

I got mine "toyota certified" used at a toyota dealership with 26k. Mine now has 52k on it, other than clutch issues its fine. I beat it up pretty hard going up mountains around where I go to school so there is no avoiding it.

They extended the 100k mile warranty to 126k so its like a 100k warranty for me.

I think it was because I am French/American and the dealer spoke french since he is from Egypt. I spoke a little arabic and I guess he got soft lol. He told me free oil changes till the warranty dies so any internal problem is on them unless I over-rev. I paid 17,600k full with debit then drove it out the dealership.

Maybe because I paid full at that price (I live in Northern Virginia, everything is high priced here) they gave me everything so I would pay it all right then and there.

Otherwise I change my own oil from time to time. My dad bought me like 8 quarts of Royal purple, so I am going to run them this summer at 4k intervals since I am trying to get rid of the dino oil sludge before winter.

I am glad i read this thread too because now I can use the bigger filter no problem. I just hope they give it to me free at the dealership since it would be considered a change interval

I asked for 10w30 during the winter oil changes and they were more than happy to do so since it protects better during the winter and that the manual says it is ok to use 10w30.

Is my dealership the only good one around?

Has anyone thought of get a pcv valve with a filter on it to clean the intake gases? I think I will make that another preventative purchase.

I will PM you about the sparks in 8k miles I change them every 30k just to be sure.
