i actually was at a complete stop... im not one of those "idiots" that you are speaking about... i actually was running 9.5 psi and over 200whp in my xB.. that might have caused my tranny 2 blow...

9.5 psi won't get you over 200hp, sorry the numbers don't work. what set up do you have?

if you were stopped, and shifting between r-1....thats not how it was worded/read.

either way, i'm in the same ballpark of hp and it takes it fine.
i've seen the internals of this tranny, it is well built for our abuses.

could just have been the luck of the draw...doing mass production will let a few irregulars through...
hows the new tranny, any issues?

are you sure it is a crack and not a casting mark?
keep an eye on it anyways.

Hello,

I don't usually post but I'm posting this...

for those who is interested in a 6spd into your box....

-Buy a C160 trans off a Corolla AE111 or AE101 ... you can find these dirt cheap because people only buy these clip for the black top 20valves ( 20valve 4A_GE)
and basically the trannies sit out in the dirt lot or in the shelves collection dust. I bought mine for a $100 bucks...

-Swap your C56 Bell Housing over to the C160 ... it should mate together like my C150 together because these are all C-Series trans...

-people ask about axles... your stock axles are fine just as long you upgrade to a Corolla ZZE110 chasis axles seals...

-cutting is required... this is something you cant go around...

but from what I figure... you can do this swap for less than the cost of a TRD gear set... If you know the right people or do your own work....

I hope this helps...

Hey everyone... I know this thread is super-old, but I stumbled upon it called my friend at a local Toyota/Scion dealer. The part numbers & retail prices for the '03+ Corolla 5th gear swap are as follows... hope this benefits more people on here & not just me.

5th gear drive sprocket # 33036-1210 -$155.09
5th gear driven sprocket # 33428-12100 -$138.55
xB transaxle seal kit (mostly Orange RTV but this is the rest) #04331-02060 -$34.21

Thumbs up

Nice info. I'll consider the Corolla 5th gear option when I next replace my clutch.

Did someone already did the fifth gear swap from Corolla 03 tranny fifth gear? I'll like to know if it easy bolt on and it is working perfect without any issue.

I know this was a long time ago, but I just completed swapping 5th gear for 03 Corolla. Everything fits perfectly and I have about 200 miles on it so far. I don’t know about long term benefits yet, but I have noticed downshifting a little more on inclines. If anyone is still interested in doing this let me know. I have all the part numbers. It cost about $1000 including labor and a new clutch while I was in there.

Better acceleration than the Echo final drive, and it swaps right in. Part #'s coming next if I don't get flamed like crazy again by people who swear that the Echo final is the only way to go.

Thank you for all this info. I just completed this swap with 03 Corolla and it works great. I’m hoping for improved gas mileage, but only time will tell. Your numbers and all the info on this thread was invaluable to making the swap possible.

I would like to know the correct part numbers, I’m a mechanic and need to do this to my Scion xB.

Once I shift into 5th gear I have high rpm.

When I'm in 5th gear going about 80 and my rpm are @4000. When I got the car I thought the clutch was going out so I replaced it and got the same result.
So I look it up online and everyone is talking about this problem.

Does anyone have proof of this problem being fixed like a YouTube video or something?
