Default Email from TRD re: Supercharger / Turbo

In a moment of frustration over all the promises of a TRD supercharger or turbo kit for the xB, I decided to send the following email to TRD USA:

"Seriously, are you ever really going to come out with either a supercharger
or turbocharger for the Scion xB? I was told by my dealer that one
(supercharger) was forthcoming... back when I purchased my xB... a year
ago! I'm tired of the hype, poor guessing and flat-out lies. A straight
answer would be appreciated."

Their response - quick and to the point:

"Thank you for your interest in TRD but there are no plans to offer a
supercharger or turbo kit for the Scion xB."

Not even a "...at this time"! So, I suppose I'll stop holding out for a non-warranty-voiding option and start shopping!

I doubt they would sell enough units to cover the R&D. People do not buy the xB to go fast. If anything they are some of the slower drivers on the road. Too busy playing xbox haha

Hmm, you know that I never heard any murmurings about an xA/xB forced induction kit from TRD? That was my job too. I think your dealer was ill informed or confused when he told you to expect such a thing.

Scion didn't design the xA/xB as go fast cars. That's why there is the tC. Therefore they won't be making many go fast parts for them.

That may change with the 2007 "xB" and its larger engine displacement, but I doubt it.

More likely he just lied to you. Many salesmen tend to do that if it sells the car, and in this case it did..

Before the xA/xB were released, Toyota let selected media people drive them. When the media folks complained about the poky performance of the Echo drivetrain, the Toyota reps speculated about an add-on turbo or supercharger, but the never put anything in writing. The magazine writers took the speculation and blew it up into a virtual promise that the hardware was forthcoming. Readers lapped it up and Toyota sold cars.

very few cars that are now fast were ever designed to be fast cars. the tc is ugly and bland as all hell. as well as very small

There's nothing wrong with the TC, it's just a more mainstream car. And it's still a great car for the money. Just like the Xb the TC is a bargain when you look at anything else even close to the price.

Don't put down a car just because it's not what you have. There are alot of great cars out there that are good for different reasons.

I have a 98 Celica now. I did not fit well in the new gen. I love the car. it has 100k miles and drives perfectly. My only problem is that it now feels too small for me (being 62") after selling and sitting in so many xB's! I love the tC as well, but it is essentially the same as my Celica GT - a sporty 2 door with a Camry (at that time the Camry had the 2.2L) engine. Same problem though - I don't fit as comfortably as I'd like.

I agree about the 1.5L needing some help, but it is not that big of a deal. I got 2 speeding tickets back to back in my Celica, and partly because it is 3 colors! I was hesitant about lacking TOO much power in the xB, until in Claremont at a red light an xB pulled up next to me, with a lady driving, and I envied her headroom, but thought I'd smoke her anyways... then.... She just straight took off on me! I know she had to have had a stick, and I have an automatic, but still, I had so much horsepower on her. I think the weight made some difference (I know I should've gotten that carbon-fiber hood!), but the xB/xA really has some spunk! I'm not sure what she was running under her hood, but that's the day I was sold, and now my car's for sale! haha. I think with just the intake and exhaust, the car really moves enough for street legal and safe driving (especially with the VSC on the xB!)

I would imgagine toyota NEVER had any intentions on making a super or turbo for xAs and xBs, stick to Blitz or Greddy.

I too was told that there would be a TRD supercharger "coming out in a few months" when I bought my XB almost two years ago. During a return visit a few months later the dealer even said that they were taking pre-orders cause it will be out "next month"!! Whatever............

Here's a couple old threads WITH VIDEOS of the TRD turbo that came out for the Bb and ist!! Pretty cool to see what we're not getting!!!!
