hey everbody, new here, couple questions.
First off, yes, I DO know EVERYTHING in the world. Just don't ask me any questions because I'm very selfish and unhelpful.
Anyway. I was on the fence for a long time about buying a new scion. I went another direction but I'd like to follow the progress in the Scion niche market.
Has anybody done a GTS engine swap? I believe it's engine code 2ZZ-GE.....
just curious
later

Yeah I figured it had been talked about. I was wondering if anybody had followed through. It doesn't look like it yet.
I really like the idea of making the xB faster, I like the looks, totally different.
I went with another pontiac...grand prix GTP. it's my 3rd GP.
I'm friends with BoogieQ. We've had a wild ride in the 3800 world. We worked on lots of cars, made LOTS of power, and had LOTS of fun. We actually had a shop for a little while.
I was sucked back in by the big cheap GM car with the supercharged engine that can make enough torque to snap the lug studs off like tooth picks. 400+ ftlbs is addicting. Especially when you can make that power for way less than $2,000!!!

Yeah i dont think anybody has followed through on it yet, but if you got the money, time and the knowledge to put that motor in, then i say do it. Would love to see more power in our xB's. Ask BoogieQ how the mock supercharger is coming and to post some updates, thanks.
You make 400ftlb's for way lessthen 2000 but for how long and what is the actual savings in the long run for fixing a big cheep GM. Also you need 400ftlb's to get that lumbering boat rolling and you burn enought gas to fuel a small country. At least with a turbo 4 you are not always on boost depending on on crank speed. As far as cheep GM's go you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheep GM you drive a cheep gm on a daily bases. But if you like that sort of thing then to each his own.
As far as the 2zz-ge install goes i have not seen anyone do it yet but i would like to see it. It would have a very good power to weight ratio. I would like to see it installed in a 2035 lb 2 door echo and turbo'd. That would make for a killer street sleeper. That would blow away lots of push rod punks.

There are also a myriad of electronic gagets to adjust fuel ratios and timming.
For fuel mileage...you would be surprised. 3800's are rated 18-19 city and 28-29 highway stock.
My modded 99 would see 30-34mpg freeway (55-60mph) and 27-29mpg (65-75mph) The beauty of moddifying is you make more efficient power, less fuel is needed to MAINTAIN speed.
GM is also running stupid tall gears. 55mph and I'm seeing 1450-1550 rpm. 106mph at the top of second and 3rd...haven't been there yet, past 136 though...

You need to realize your cars role in the whole scheme of things. If you want to talk down about the other cars you mentioned, you might want to start talking fuel consumption instead of horsepower
I drive quality not quanity. My echo come from factory at 16.5 at 84.5 1/4 mile and 8.4 0 -60 and i can go around a turn without hitten the ditch . At 5 psi and 155 crank hp i would have a power to weight ratio of 13.12. Not bad for a gutless car . By the way your fuel economy #'s are in your dreams bubba. You have to burn gas to make power .So your eather bs on the economy #'s or on the power . Witch is it buddy. Unless you live in dream land where hotrods can turn and your outdated pushrod crap runs on pixy dust or maby your the one on dust.
Outdated or not, my '99 Dakota R/T with the old Western Chassis drop would run circles around you on a road course and leave you at the starting line at the drag strip. The only place your little Echo could outperform that truck would be fuel economy. Just like I said before.
And you can talk all you want about "if" you had this and "if" you had that all you want. Fact is, you don't have it. You drive what I can only assume is a stock, bottom of the line, Toyota. A Toyota that did so poorly in sales that they pulled it from the American market after only a couple of years.

Your dakota is the best you can come up with. you wish it could run circles. I HAVE QUITE A LIST OF MODS including wider and lower tires preloaded frunt anti role bar with poly bushings frunt and rear strut tower braces frunt lower frame brace rear lower frame brace lowered in rear1.5 inch 2.5 inch short ram cold air intake positioned behind the head light boxed in with cold air vent in bumper. 2.5 inch catback exhaust and jet v-force PCM.also short shifter with steel mounting bushings manual fan switch . i have a mitsu. turbo to be mounted in the summer and as far as the base modle goes it's the same drive train but without all the electronics and 4 doors . I picked the lightest modle for that reason something you wouldent know about because you drive big heavy pieces of ____. Right now i race and beat any grand am gt or grand pre gt and even run down mustang gt's on twisty roads just wate until i put that turbo in bubba.
I didn't buy it for the price iv'e had a 90 supra turbo a 96 tacoma a 90 tircel a 76 volvo a 87 toyota 4x4 a 85 626 1993 pathfinder and unfortunatly a 80 cutless. When i buy a car or truck it's not about the biggest car i can get for the lowest price possable. Talking about poor sales your good old big 3 are going down fast supin about peoplr dont want cheep crap to fix all the time . Say good buy to your belovied gm cuse their first to go
LOL... I give up. This is going to get ridiculous. I concede. You are right. Your tuned tin can is the baddest hot rod on the road. You be happy in your tin can, and I'll be happy in my gas guzzling boat anchor of a Dakota, my daily driver Prelude SH, and the wife's fuel sipping xB.
No matter what we do none of them will ever be the car your Echo obviously is. I guess I should call my dad as well and tell him he is wasting his time with all of those Shelby Mustangs he has. I bet he doesn't even know what piles of crap those things are. Ancient pushrod technology and all. He should sell them and buy fleet of Echos. Or maybe just sell one of the steering wheels and buy himself one Echo.
