Default n00b here... CAI performance in desert question

Is there any point in using a CAI with 100-120 degree heat? Should I get a short ram intake? I live in the desert and was just wondering.

Sorry if I sound like a n00b, but I've just started learning about intakes (CAI/Short ram) but I'm still a little unclear as the differences (yes I searched and wiki'd). I read high end vs. low end performance? is this correct?

Since I live in the desert (palm Springs) I was just wondering how the desert temperature affects CAI/ SRI performance and which would be more benificial in my case. I drive 50/50 freeway and urban and would rather see performance increase at the higher end maybe around 4k rpms?

Sorry for being n00bish
Thanks in advance.

alot of peeps will say the short ram is no different from the
CAI.. I dont agree, and think there is a point, especially in
hotter weather, for having one.. even if its just a few inches more than the short ram.. thats a few inches away from the 200 degree ambient heat in the compartment, and given that 120 is cooler than 200, I would do it..

plus the longer tubing creates a stronger airmix or swirl
effect, which is desired for atomization of the final air/fuel
mix.. thats one of the things that Honda designs into all of
thier intake manifolds for more power, swirl effect of intake air. CAI tubing also creates this effect... thats why the TRD, Fujita, and BOMZ cai's have that loop in the pipe, and
are not just a straight pipe.. it might be just a power addition
of a few tenths, but if your given the option, I would choose
the extra tenth.. however, also keep in mind the "extra
tenths" are a little higher in the power band, unlike the short
ram which is felt immediatly (but overall provides less
power).

ah, gotcha. CAI it is. Thanks man. Now are there any inherent problems with CAI's I should know about? How great is the risk of hydrolock and is that something I should be concerned about when it rains? I guess living in the desert it's not too high haha.

oops wrong section. Can a mod move or delete this thread please?
