Default Ok, list your Turbo based mileage!

So, I've been looking all over the place and I can't seem to find a single useful thread about the mileage anyone is getting using a turbo setup.

I've learned alot since the first time I had ever started looking into turbo tech. I know the workings from inside and out and can be some of the best help around when it comes to getting the turbo you want...

SO! here's the question(s).

1. What turbo kit are you using and what mileage are you getting with it? please list an approx. % of highway and city driving and please list your average highway speed with your highway mileage.

2. What, by opinion, would be the best turbo kit that's offered currently? I use to be a Turbo Toyotas fane based on their setup but I see they no longer supply kits anymore for the xB. I really liked their setup with some exceptions... for example the exhaust mani, I wouldn't do a log, i have welding experience, I can build and maintain a custom mani. I never liked ZPI's setup, having the turbo at the bottom and hanging below the chassis is SCARY! Greddy is alright in my opinion but I don't like their turbo they use and there's lots of useless piping. HKS is nice but... ehh... Then there's the TRD one and it's setup looks very nice and comes with everything including ecu and injectors and such but I would probably spend the extra cash and change out what seems to be Toyota's CT12 and stick a garret GT2554R on there...

so, for some threat rules, just list your answer for question 1 and 2, no need to take it any further.

seems using a turbo on our blocks doesn't really decrease our mileage much compared to other builds.

i still have my major build plans in progress, i have a lovely massive 3.0L at my buddies shop just sitting on an arm and waiting for some work done to it.

but for now i'm just looking for a boost in power and i'm a turbo guy. i don't like SC's, wastes gas compared turboing and i'm only looking for a bit of fun for now.

1. 33MPG on the highway ( off the boost ) at 65-70MPH
26MPG in the city, My right shoe has a thing for the go pedal.
75% City and 25% Highway

2. Greddy kit, with FMIC and custom charge piping, 9PSI. Only complaint with the kit is that the turbo seems to hate the high oil pressure in our enigines and leaks a miniscule amount of oil into the exhaust. Nothing a slightly heavier oil wont solve.

1. Roughly 27mpg - city only.

2. I've been running the Greddy Kit with FMIC for about 2 years without any issues...so far.

Shell 91 Octane. Average boosting is about 7.5~8psi depending on how open the roads are.

1.) 280-320 miles on 10.5 gallons of gas. This is with 60% highway and 40% city. If we switch those numbers around and go with 75% city and 25% highway it drops down to 240-270 on 10.5 gallons of gas.

2.) Turbo Toyotas kit, so you know how the charge pipes works and how wonderful the GT2554R is.

I have a VERY heavy foot and i run on Shell 93 octane. I think your best choice would be the TRD, first of all, because Toyota designed it and they know the lack of space issue in our cars.

I must agree with the log manifold on the TT kit, but hey, it works perfectly. The only issue with the TT kit is the downpipe hitting the sway bar when the engine sways back under load. This doesn't happen on the xB's as the engine sits a little higher on the chassis and doesn't hit the sway bar. But, as you said, they longer sell the kit, so no dice... Go with the TRD, swap out the turbo, and you should be good to go!!!

this info helps alot. i actually had no intention of doing a turbo setup on the 1NZ. i posted this specifically to get the MPG numbers because when i DID post it, there wasn't a single post when using "search" that had ever answered the question "what is your turbo mileage?" the only ones you could find where SC mileage...

my plans involve a bigger 356lb engine... the 2GR
