Turbo or Super?
drax just to let you know, not all 18 year old kids got their cars from mommy and daddy.... i work a full time job and go to college and i bought my 2007 BCP scion tC with my own money, and i too want to be boosted in a year or so. I understand how you would feel about this kid wanting to go boosted and how it would make you sick to see him race it on the street, but dont like one bad egg spoil your views of 18 year old kids. I do not come from a auto mechanic family and i want to learn about cars so i come on here to see what people can tell me and to get opinions before i buy because im sure like this other kid, he doesnt know what he should get and doesnt want to just go out and buy some random item and hope for the best, i just think that the negative comments are not needed, he should already know not to street race or what not but forums are for helping people not degrading them because you and 99% of the adults in this world think an 18 year old "kid" cant do anything right.
generally 18 year olds who want more power will use it to drive recklessly, 30 year olds who want it, usually can afford it, and hopefully in the 15 or so years of driving, have the good judgement when to let the ponies gallop.
now yeah, there are immature people at all ages, but you can't blame me for siding with statistics when trying to determine the motives of an 18 year old male who wants more speed.
if i am wrong about him, so be it, like i said, my entire first impression of him was based on one post. i have no problem admitting that my first impression was wrong because first impressions are often wrong.
now, the first post i made was just giving a quick suggestion to save the guy the trouble of buying a cai that he might not even use.
for my second one, i simply stated the way i feel about his post looking at his age and language. now i do forget that this is text, and therefore my sarcastic tone is often lost, it wasn't meant to ignite such a reaction, really it was just me indirectly asking him to clarify whether or not he would be responsible with boosting a box.
you have two kids, i don't know anything about them, but say you have the means, and when say hypothetically your son or daugther wants their first car to be a brand spankin new corvette z06. do you think that they could really handle that car for very long without putting themselves in the hospital or cemetary? now i know a boosted box is no corvette, but i just want to make people aware that boost isn't so simple as plug and play and enjoy. $h!t happens.
so a supercharged, 140hp automatic xB is now the equivalent of a corvette ZO6? dont you think revealing that your post was made in a sarcastic way initially would have saved you a lot of headache... being 22 doesn't make you any better of a driver than someone 18, being 24 doesn't make me any better of a driver, and i never said i had the means, i simply said that i have two kids and a modded box, you assumed i had the means because of age... i do have the means, but once again, you made an assumption based on age, you might as well start a thread telling people to lie about their age when they create an account so they will not be discriminated against... furthermore, nothing in your following posts even hinted at the fact you were being sarcastic...
yeah, my second post was a bit of a screw up because sometimes i'm too lazy to use emoticons.
and i have helped people a bit when they have questions, i point them in the best direction i know how. no, i don't have all the answers, but oh well. as for fake ages, there are plenty of those, i mean, have you noticed how many prominant members of our community are celebrated centurians? as for being a better driver, i like to think i am, but i know that everybody thinks they are better drivers than everybody else so i am aware that i am pretty average at best, and that lesson was made painstakingly clear to me at auto cross.

lol im just saying i hear you and know where your coming from just try not to judge the people on scionlife, because A. they bought a scion and not many people just say hey i want a scion so most people look around and found this car. B. he is here on scionlife, which is another A+ in my book also
First, to the originator of this thread. Supercharger if you want power all thru the RPM range, Turbo if you want a little more power but can wait till it comes on higher up. Keep in mind, cars are an expensive hobby.
For drax...Shut the FCK up!... I started going to the drag strip when I was 6 years old. Started racing at 14. I am now 35 and have 2 kids which come before anything. I have a bagged, rimmed, soon to be boosted box as my daily and just spent another $5000 + on mods to do over the winter. And my wife drives a xB2 that is soon to be rimmed and slammed. I've NEVER had a car that was stock, and have had 3 that ran 10 seconds and were street cars. Guess that makes me immature because of the money I wasted. Everyone has to learn sometime. Age has nothing to do with it. A friend of ours bought his first car at 16 with the $ he made WORKING for his father. His father never helped him, and now our friend is only 20, customizes his cars, and owns and operates his own condo's. Is he immature because he's younger than you? And I usually find it easier and faster to post a thread about what I want to know rather than spend hours searching for the answer. Especially when there are dumbass's that can't put up a decent thread title. Oh, and I street race once in a while too. Only when a punk like you deserves to be put in thier place. Never in town, but out on a country road. I guess I am immature. My youngest daughter is 4, and has a jr. dragster too. She can't race for another 2 years tho. Does that make me a bad father for buying her a race car? Does that make her spoiled? Well, OK, I'll give you that one. People like you are the reason people leave forums. My 240 site was full of people like you, and now I only go on there to sell stuff. Try to be helpfull, not discouraging. The car culture is a dying breed. I used to cruise the main strip here in town and every parking lot was packed and traffic backed up at every light. Now, you see about a dozen cars parked and no one around. Car shows that used to pull 300 cars now can barely make 100 show up. Teach the kid right, and let him join the crowd.

yeah, it is great that you have alot of involement in car culture. i try to do as much as i can too.
did i say people are immature because they have fast cars? no. having a fast car doesn't make you immature. i really respect my neighbors with their 9 second classic muscle cars that they do all the work on.
what makes people immature is racing fast cars on public roads. i admit i was guilty of thinking how glamorous fast and the furious made it look, but i only go all out on the auto cross course.
you want to race on the public roads, even country roads empty at night, go ahead and i hope for you and everyone else around nothing ever happens, but that is the difference between racing on a track, and racing on the streets, you can't gaurentee that there won't be unwilling bystanderards on a street race. yeah, i used to drive really fast on country roads, but i figured out it was a bad idea when i drove buy somebody walking down the road and really close to getting hit because there was almost no shoulder. even in the country roads late at night, you can't ever gaurentee that nobody is out there, or something like a deer, raccoon, fox whatever won't be crossing the road and mess things up. not saying i'm an animal rights activist, but you or the other car could wreck and get hurt should they come up.
just three weeks ago my gf hit a deer going 30 mph just a mile from my house at 5 am. last saturday, me and my friend were driving to my house at 10:30 pm, and luckily i saw a family of deer scuttering across the road well before we were upon them. if we had been driving like idiots, who knows what could have happened. and believe me, this is country, nothing but cornfields and trees.
now i was saying that if he is a father, and he wants to boost his box, you can pretty easily figure out how much for a kit, and peripheral instruments and installation, but don't forget to have something saved for insurance should something unfortunately go wrong. and he is 18 with a kid. i don't know this person, but most people i know who are about that age with a kid don't have alot of extra money. so it was just a word of caution.
am i immature? i like to mod my tc, i like to race it in auto x, i don't race on the streets, and i try not to promote new drivers boosting their cars for street racing. if that is immature, i guess i should apologize, but immature people usually don't admit they are wrong. now then, if the op really is a mature and responsible parent, and just wants some more fun out of his box, then i was wrong to assume he was a ricer wanting to blow away a civic at every stop light. but their message really didn't convey that message to me.

oh man...., everyone is entitled to thiere opinion, its true seeing both sides of the argument, there are alot of immature 18 yr olds and even drx himself is considered a kid in the adult world... lets jus face it every one here has to earn his/her own respect out there... jus stop arguing peace man. back to the original topic, forced induction. has anyone heard anything about the greddy s/c? r they coming out with a rewire for the 06? im not sure whether to start saving up for it if i cant even install it u get me? and i dont feel like rewiring the thing myself, im not to confident in my soldering/splicing skill.... everything else im good!
