Default 2 Head units in place of single double din?

Hi, I used the search but cant find anything that talks about this, maybe someone can help. Ill keep it short...

Can you install 2 HU's, ie. a Flip out dvd player on top of a normal HU, in the double din location?

Thanks

As long as you never turn them on at the same time there shouldn't be any electrical reason why you couldn't. If you did turn both on at the same time you might draw too much power(current?) through the factory harness and blow a fuse or worse. If your going to pursue this then I recommend you put a switch on there some how that would prevent both from being turned on by accident.

im sure because u can get a better deal on two h.u. (one as the flip out monitor and one as an in-dash dvd player. i had this setup in my civic before. u will be ok as long as u wire the flip out monitor thru an automotive relay so that it switches on when the in-dash dvd player comes on. there will be zero issues with blowing fuses. basically its like wiring an amplifier to the main h.u. (the indash-dvd). when u wire it this way u can turn off the monitor when u turn the dvd player off and vice versa.

no big deal, I don't have pics but do have a solution to stop both from turning on at the same time.... Use a relay with the first deck being the master. so when it is on it interrupts the power to the slave deck. so when you turn the master off, it allows power to go to the slave. you should also look into a way to seperate the rca's from both decks. I do not believe it is good to have power coming out from one go into another.

I'm just wondering where to get power at for the Omnifi.

Post up pics once you're done. I'll do the same. I've yet to see any pics of this type of setup in an xB.

Depending on the head unit sometimes this is the only solution. One example is the top of the line Alpine F#1 stuff. The head unit only comes as a single din that supports DVD-A and DVD-V discs but does not have a screen and you have to add the single din flip out monitor. Another thing that you will sometimes see on competitor cars is not 2 head units but one single din unit and the controller for the Alpine processor mounted in a double din opening.
