Default 2006 iPod radio in a 2005 xB

Hey all,

First, I used the search and looked all over for this question. I couldn't find anything.

I have a 2005 xB with the 6-disc changer stereo. I also have the bazooka sub-woofer.

My question is, can I use a 2006 iPod stereo in my 2005 xB? I have a place where I can obtain a 2006 stereo rather cheap. I'm guessing that if the harness in the back is the same it should work? Has anyone tried this?

I want to do this because I want to have iPod functionality in my xB but also have the iPod text show up on the head unit. I know I can buy an adapter like the USA-SPEC iPod adapter to hook up the iPod to my 2005 radio but I'd rather use the 2006 radio if I can.

Thanks in advance!!!

COOL!!! Yeah i have a '04 and im wondering if it will work on mine too. Right now im using the Griffin FM transmitter and i think it is junky. But i live in a semi-big city and there is lots of traffic in the air waves so i think that dosen't help! Anywho, where did you get yours Castle Rock and how much did you pay for it? Is it hard to install the iPod connecting cable?

AFAIK, the cable that goes from the console connector to the radio is an '06 only item.

Unless it has become available from a dealer, you will need to talk an '06 owner out of it. This is the "under center console" cable that goes to the radio, not the visible one that connects the console connector to your iPod.

This connects your pod through the dock connector so that titles, track, artist info, etc. is selectable and shown on the HU. Not using the 1/8" "aux in" plug.

Spike91-Agreed, Fm transmitters are NFG. In LA, you are always chasing clear stations as you drive. as well as putting up with limited bandwidth, static and fading.

G/L!

Where can you get the "under the console" cable? The one that goes from the _bottom_ of the console connector to the HU? P/n?

Thanx!

Does anyone know the part number of the center console wire?

Can this be ordered through toyota/scion or some website?!

There's gotta be a way to find it.

also, is the 'centet console wire' even needed?

Can you just hook up the iPod connector wire to the head unit and make it work? I know this would be an extremely short wire but would it work?

Well if i were to get a connecting wire, i would get the one that goes under the center console because it is more sleek. But i have never seen or even knew about another cable that dosent go under the center console. Is that a dealer option?

This isn't an option at all, I was just hoping to make it work somehow.

Will any of you with a 2006 part with your console cable!? I've already got a 2006 radio and all the parts but not the console cable! Please help!!

You could ask me...

Yes, they can be ordered from the dealer. The Cables you want is the PT546-21060. It's both cables you need (the one that runs from the radio to the console and the one that plugs into that to the Ipod) for around $80. But I might be wrong on the price.
Now I ask you. Who's the man?

Frosty, you are the man! You're alleviating headaches by the minute!

My xB thanks you ;)

Also, you said above that you installed the 2006 Head Unit in your 2005 xB. Did you have any problems with the install or with hooking up the iPod?

I'll go talk to the dealer and get a price/order the PT546-21060.

I searched the part number PT546-21060 on google and it popped up a couple of threads from this forum. Every thread that it found mentioned that the PT546-21060 was the part number for the console -> iPod wire only. Not the head unit to console wire.

So now I have conflicting information. Frosty or anyone else, can you verify that PT546-21060 comes with everything I need to hook up the iPod to my new 2006 factory iPOD head unit?

Hmmm... That was the number I got off of the package of the cables themselves. I have to stop by the dealership tonight anyhow, I'll see if I can confirm that number. Darn! Thought I had it all lined up! $%#%$#^%@!

Frosty,
Do you have the part # for the Aux cable?

I got a 06 scion headunit (no ipod connection). I am missing the aux port cable.
I need to find out a way to connect that.
Thanks man.

Can you guys with the 6-disc answer some questions for me? I saw a pic of a car in another forum here on ScionLife and the dude had blue dial and button lights on his radio. Someone mentioned it was because he had the 6 disc radio version.

I just bought my xA (2006) 4 days ago and I am stuck with crappy amber lights in my radio dials/buttons. Is this a "newer" radio though? It would be cool if it also had switchable lights but I think I am stuck. And I don't even use an iPod!

If I didn't think I might buy one in the future to play with in my car I'd swap you radios Zanex I hope you get your ride all straightened out!

Ok, I received my 2006 iPod radio in the mail and this is what I found:

The radio does infact come with two cables in a bag marked part # PT546-21060. The two cables are the iPod customer cord and the console connector. However, there is another 3rd cord which conencts from the back of the radio to the console connector cord. This is the cord that everyone is talking about. I'm assuming (from posts I've read) that this cord comes with every 2006 Scion from the factory. Also, I have no idea of the part number of this cord.

So I've got the radio and no way to plug in the iPod until I get this cord from ANY 2006 scion owner.

Can somone please help me?

I need either the cord (I'll buy it from you), a part number for the cord, a supplier for the cord, or even a picture of the cord would be helpful.

Thanks!

From what I remember everything that I needed was in there... I can't think of why it wouldn't be in there. was it used? or did it get taken out by whoever had it before? you got me on that one.

Frosty,

From the back of your radio how many seperate cables did you have until you got to your ipod? 2 or 3?

I seem to need 3, this stinks.

Also, got any pics?
