8" midbass install in xB
Where!!!! i've got 1 focal polyglass 8" midbass and have plans to buy another if i can find a place to put it!!? my questions are: would it work to mount them forward facing on the top of my speaker box in back so they popped up on the sides and faced forward? would this bring the sound up front? the response is 50-5000 hz, they would be handling 80hz - ~150hz exclusively. Other options? rear door mounting? kicks? new holes in the front doors? move my 5.25's down to the kicks? they also need some air space.... thanks for the opinions. they take 90 watts. oh, under the front seats?! thanks a lot people.

your midbass is going to be more directional than your sub bass(as sub bass is omni-directional), putting them in the back facing you is going to mess up your front stage i would think. I'm considering doing this, I think a good location would be the area inbetween the cup holders and the dash, thats really the best place I can think of.
yeah i've thought too, and it looks like that's gonna be the place i do it
gonna use just that one speaker i've got and do some fiberglass right in the center there. cause those lower frequencies will get picked up and then my mid's will take over.

Whats really gonna be a problem is getting the airspace to run that 8". I don't think there's much room behind that boot at the bottom of the center dash column so you can't go far into that, and coming out will be a problem with the cupholders.
If you figure it out let me know so I don't have to go through all the trouble haha, I'm making custom rear quarter panels right now and that's making me run out of think.

Glassing into the footwells wouldn't work too well, unless you made the glass really thin. Otherwise the walls of the enclosure + the internal area would start taking up lots of room.
But ya, glassing over the cupholders would work(this would allow you to bring the 8" up to the level or the rest of your soundstage). All this thinking about fiberglass makes me tired. I have to get atleast one part done within 2-3 weeks and school starts in a week, I think i'm gonna have to make a temp setup...damn.

I have a very simple solution for your eight inch drivers. Mount them in the front doors! Run bigger speaker wire thru the door jambs. It is really easy and probably done already by some sound quality freak. you will of course, need to make a ring for each door so the speaker will clear the window, but there is plenty of room between the door metal and the cover for an eight. Now you are wondering how to get any highs at the front, how about fabbing some REALLY good 4 inch coax's in the dash. that is my plan and I thoght I would share it with you. If you beat me to it, get some pics up.

depth could be a problem in the door, however I've been running 9" morel elate mid woofers in my xb doors for over a year with no problems. no rub. no rattle. no buzzing. fit was close so I reinforced the door panel on the inside and mounted the speaker to the backside of the oem grill. the door looks oem from the front and sounds great. for mid/tweets a 2" morel dome in the stock dash location and a 1"morel supremo tweet in the a pillar.[img][/img]
