Default Alarm & lighting wiring

I recently put some undercar Lighting on my xA and it works great. but me and a buddy were talking and we decided it would be great if we could wire the Undercar LED's to flash with the rest of the lights that flash when the alarm is set/unset. Does anyone know how I wouyld go about doing this? Right now the LEDs are on thier own curcuit with an Off off switch on the dash. I want to keep that part the same. just wire it so they blink when the alarm is switched.

Are you tlaking about the factory alarm?

If so you have to find the Bcm/alarm brain what ever they are calling it and find the wire that sends out a pulse to the lights.

Are you talking about parking lights or an LED?

Please be more specific. I can get the wire diagram at work.

Thanks James

Okay, let me clarify my 5am ramblings

the Alarm is the factory alarm. when you enable/disable the alarm the parking lights/cupholder led's and dash lights all blink. I would like to wire the undercar LED to blink when the alarm is switched.

I would use a relay and use the parking light out put of the factory alarm for the input, pin85 then pin 86 to ground, pin 30 to constant 12v, pin 87 to led lights, provided the output from the facory alarm is a positve output.

hey bill he would actually need two relays one with your set up but instead of pin30 to constant 12v it would go to pin87a from another realy. 2nd relay is as follows pin30 to constant 12v, pin87a to LED system, pin85 to ignition and pin86 to ground. reason for the 2nd relay is that you don't want your LEDs to blink while your driving making a turn and the second relay interupts the 12v feed once you put your keys in ignition.

hope this helps,

I'm quite sure it will be exactly what I wanted to know. just as soon as i translate it into laymans terms

what type of relay?

heck I'll admit it I am really confused.

here is how the lights are setup..
Code:

  12v input ----------------------[Switch]----+12 v-------[Controller]
                                                          |___________________[Controller]
                                                                               | [Controller]
                                                                               | |
                                                                       =Ground= (Lighting)
Would your setup interfere with how this would work? where would I plug into this setup?

Thanks for heads up, I have use relays that have diodes built in, so the curcuit would be isolated, but true others might not have that relay, good call. Bill

If I could find a diagram of the factory alarm at work I could tell you how to do it. But I really cant find it anywhere.

It would be alot easier if it was an aftermarket alarm

Here you go...a diagram of the two relays that bill and I are talking about. Sorry about the quality I just used MSPaint. I added a switch onto it with diodes(make sure you note on where the stripe of the diode) so you can turn on or off your lights as you please. With this setup once you take the key off from ignition and press on your keyless the Undercar kit will flash the same time as your parking lights.

if you have anymore questions please feel free to post. so everyone can learn.

Thanks.
If it isn't too much please forgive me for two more questions.
I'm more mechanical than electrical. Where would I get the ignition wire from?(the Alarm or the ignition?do I tap a wire or reroute it?) and which wire from the alarm is the parking light output?

no problem at all...the ignition and constant 12volts you can actually get from the ignition harness from the stearing colum and your parking lights is either by the fuse panel or the light switch itself. one more thing when testing wires use a DMM (digital multi meter) not a test light.

hope this helps,

Parking lights are both green at the headlight switch on xb and xa

Other wires are different.
