Alpine stereo wireing ?'s
I have a 9831 and have installed it in my tC along with a 12" Type R. The problem is that it seems like the sub isnt getting any power. There is a signal and it does bump, but the bump is rather wuss. When I turn off the signal to the factory speakers and turn the volume up, I get some good bass from the speaker but that is at volume level 25 plus. with the factory speakers on, i can only turn the stereo up to15 before the sound gets unbearable loud. Is there any way to get more volume from the sub without getting more from the factory speaks?
If you know anything about this problem, i implore your knowledge.

check your input levels on your amp. it sounds like you either have it wired incorrectly, or the amp is turned down.
you're using a regular 2 channel amp? is it bridged? what is the sub's impedance? single or dual voice coil?

As I understand it you are powering your stock with deck power and using an amp for the sub, is this right?
Well I am not there to see your system but... your problem sounds like one of two things.
First Iwould check the gain on the amp, you may be able to turn it up sme. I would not turn it up all the way.
Second the difference in efficiency between the two speakers could be the other problem. Stock speakers are made to work with about 5 to 12 watts of power. Subwoofers need much more power. You can use resistors to turn down the level of your stock speakers. This will allow you to balllance your sound.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys.
I do have it all wired correctly. It's the same setup I had in my van and the stereo/speaker combo worked really well. You say the acoustics are different? yes, but its a smaller vehicle and the sound should be equivocal.
Tell me more about these resistors Boom. what do they do, how do they work?

I had CDA-9813 which is a very similar unit with stock speakers. What you can do is boost the gain on the amp, but first lower gain to the speakers from the head unit (under cross over settings). The rears are really loud so start with them. YOu can drop it as much as -12 dB. Keep the sub at 0 dB of course (on the HU).
