Default amp attached to front seat?

Has anyone ever mounted an amp under the driver seat? but to the underpart of the seat...not the floor.
I've made something to fit mine to it, so I was wondering if anyone else has done something like that.

No, but why not to the floor under the seat?

i move my seats around all the time and take them out for various projects, so i mounted mine to the floor, rather then haveing to disconnect and re-connect wires all the time... plus my amps would have given me clearance issues if they were mounted to the under side of the seat cage.

Robert,
Well, because If I did that I would have to relocate the jack under the driver seat, or if I went with the other side, I would lose all the space under the seat. I may want to do a sub under the passenger seat, all stealth.
Back in the day I never cared if subs were out or showing, heck at one point I had 4 12's in my trunk and two in my back seat, which eventually got replaced with 4 15's. ahh...but now I want stealth and quality. I may not even need subs.
Oh and it doesn't seem like something common so why not.. :D
I have all the speakers in just waiting for the amp, and I couldnt put the amp in until I got done with the damp pro. ahhh!

Anthony, yeah that makes sense in your case as that would be a hassle. I don't think my seats will come out after this, so I think that works. Plus my amp has plugs for the speaker wires so it would just be unhooking the +,- and remote...oh and rca's but those slip off so they don't count.
But I think only select size amps will fit under it nicely, I know my mono won't lol. I will post pix soon, I spent a lot of time making the frame for it and thinking it out. I think it looks pretty bad ___. \m/

id be concerned with there not being enough airflow over the heatsinks and overheating the amp.

Hey man,

Actually, there is still a couple inches of space above the amp, with the bracket the amp is attached to lowers it a bit. Also my pdx amp stays pretty cool! I will probably monitor it once I can run it in this car, and if it gets too warm under there I would have more then enough room for a run a fan.

Oh and I weighed the whole thing, amp and bracket and it's only 8.4 lbs. not bad for aprox 3ft of 1/4'' thick x 1'' wide steel composing the bracket, plus the bolts aaaand the amp

Ah, I see now! Sounds different for sure! Any pics of your install yet?

Heres my eD amps (Nine.2x and Nine.1) mounted on fabbed aluminum brackets (1/2" space between) under the pass. seat. The Nine.2 is under the driver side. I cut the jack mount out clean, saved for reinstall if needed. Clears the seat frame fine, full travel, no hits. A ton of room under there!

Old pic, no more x-overs or eDi comps since the 880PRS and Daytons.

I mounted my amp rack under the passenger seat. It is held in place by the seat itself, and does not interfere with the seat travel at all. I realize it's not exactly what you were looking for, but it may be a reasonable alternative. Passive x-overs are mounted underneath.

Another benefit of on the floor/under the seat is to tap into the rear floor ventilaton duct for summer-time cooling. Airflow is a good thing. :D

I mounted my amp (a fairly large Blaupunkt) under the driver's seat, but I have it on a simple tray that I fashioned-- one end just slots into the jack bracket, and the other end has some long feet. I have enough slack in the wires that I can pull it out without unbolting the seat (yet it all tucks away nicely), and I can move the seat back and forth without interfering with anything. It worked out really well.

Naturally, I don't have any pictures (well, one, before I put it in the car, and it's kinda blurry), but it's a pretty simple arrangement.

Under my passenger seat is my eD sub box, of course.
