so i got the speakers, will probably attempt to put them in this week.

so far looking at the specs on the box, i'm thinking the only limiting factor could be the mounting depth. These speakers are 2 1/8" (5.1cm) deep.

if you guys happened to know the mounting depth on your speakers, and any info with how yours compare to mine, i would love to hear it. Any work arounds.

I did a search on the "what size speakers to drop in the xb" thread and found some info, but that was like two months ago. I just gotta refresh myself on the issue.

refreshed on that "what size speakers to drop in xB" thread, i've undone the 2 screws, plastic rivet, and power window connectors to remove the door panel.

now, looking at the stock speaker i've run into my first problem. RIVETs, metal ones.

how do i remove the metal rivets. I guess i gotta drill them with a same size diameter bit to break em, but once i do that how am i going to reattach the speakers?

oh well, off to see how i can get this working.

any insight is much appreciated

Search right here on SL. Tons of DIY from lots of knowledgeable members.

Heres my DIY, will answer a lot of your questions such as mounting depth. My speakers @ 2-7/8" needed 2x 3/4" MDF. Yours @ 2-1/8" should only need one 3/4" spacer.

oh cool, thanks for the links fellas, but i already put the speakers in.

I ended up drilling out the rivets, and using the stock speaker baffle.

had to destroy the stock speaker to use the baffle, and drilled the speaker into the baffle right through the foamy stuff.

to attach the baffle back to the door, i used a bolt, rubber washer, flat washer, door, baffle, flat washer, locking washer, then nut (this is from the inside of the door to the middle of the car).

that crutchfield adapter looks nice though, i might have to upgrade to that one day. the stock baffle still has remnants of the stock speaker attached to it, and the bottom screws that screw the speaker to the baffle seem to be a tad loose.

thanks fellas

by the way, these speakers rock! did the dash and stereo a couple months ago, now i gotta see if i can somehow get another good deal on some dope speakers for the rear panels.
