Bazooka wiring harness used for aftermarket amp/subs
Hey folks, I need help!
I have the factory installed bazooka tube installed right now. I want to switch it out with something with more oomph.
My question: Can I use the wiring harness already in place (or at least the wires) to hook up to a new amp/subs, instead of running all new wires? This would make the install much quicker.
Thanks.

The wiring harness is not preinstalled. u can get it here http://trdsparks.com/displayparts.ph...&parts_id=1065 it plugs inline with ur factory wiring harness. And yes u can use it for an aftermarket amp. U can use the left and right speaker wires and the 12V to turn the amp on, the ground and power wires u cannot use.

U need to run the power straight to the battery with a proper fuse and wiring in order for it to work and to be safe. The power going to the bazooka tube is coming from the back of the headunit which is getting a lower amount of power than what an aftermarket amp requires. Plus it uses one of those micky-mouse fuses from the fuse block which won't be able to handle the extra drain of a 200watt amp verses a 100watt amp. Another thing to think about is that the greater power drain on the bazooka tube wiring is a fire hazard, putting more power through a wire that can't handle it will literally melt the wireing. Bazooka tube is designed to fill out the low end which it does beautifully but for hard pounding bass it just can't do it. Everytime that hard pound happens there is a big spike in powerconsumption from the amp and again that little bazooka wire just won't cut it. Is that new amp 200rms by any chance? If so then when u go to push ur sub ur guaranteed to be making more than 200watts which means more power for the amp. Another thing is aftermarket amps are power hungry and again that little wire can't handle it. Play it safe and run a seperate powercable n fuse to the battery, ur amp will run much better and ur car will be alot safer and besides its not that much money for the extra wiring and fuse.
Ahh ha! Excellent. I will probably have a car stereo place do it... thanks.
I have a little bit of a phobia about those guys.. everytime I've stepped into one of the places they try to sell me the entire store and are very pushy.

yea I hear ya. Anyplace that's pushy about anything I'm considering buying I tend to advoid. But remember ur the customer, ur always right, and don't agree to and especially don't sign anything. If u take ur time you can install everything urself, but if ur still going to get someone to install it find a good reputable shop that'll do it. I wouldn't recommend a Best Buy or Circuit City as one time u go there u may get a very experienced installer or u may wind up with a 16yo kid and ur his first install. Whatever u decide Good Luck and can't wait to see the final results.
