I have a TomTom One... I like it.
I'm wary of going in-dash because we don't have anything to cover the unit with, unlike the tC brethren.

Garmin is good...I have a NuVi 350.

Look for "text to speech" or TTS, it will announce streets by name "turn right on Main street" rather than just "turn left or right in 100 feet". Lots easier when there are two streets or freeways come up right away.

Best part is you can take the NuVi from car to car...or even on foot. You an also take it inside to program addresses and such since it has an internal battery. Great on trips, you can study maps of the surrounding area/restaurants/attractions in the hotel room the night before!

NuVi is also an MP3 player and photo viewer. Getting cheaper now. My first one was $900.

Looking to get a gps system. Which system would you go with. I've read some reviews the tomtom is inaccurate. True or not?

I've run into a couple of instances where the TomTom was off a bit. Then again, I've used my roommates AVIC D3 and that can be inaccurate also. Either way, it was never so off that you couldn't figure it out.

Maps are updated periodically, so any inaccuracies generally get resolved.

Every GPS has it's ups and downs. Some look great but are not as accurate. Some are very percise but not that intuitive. I went accrooss the country for 6 weeks with the Magellan. WOW! great system. Voice is very human sounding many more great things about it.

When I got the xA I got the Kenwood DD with Garmin and I am happy enough with it. But it has stuff I do not like. The voice is so robotic I turned it off. But it's graphically nicer looking, BUT the Magellan had allot more info on the map

So it;s really a great idea to check places like Cnet.com and read review, best rated. Plus go to FRY's or something and take a look at them.

Good luck with your choice!

Wheres a good place to get one? I've seen the tomtom go for a decent price. Should I stay away from refurbished units? I really don't want to pay more than $200.

Hmmmm, no one wants to pay over $200 hehe but there are VERY few good ones if ANY for under $200. I would be expect spending anywhere between $250 and $500. But if you look around enough you might find the prices your looking for. Just most likely it will be used or a bit older than the updated.

I was in your boat. I have an employee discount for cc and bought a garmin c330. Its a bit bigger than most gps, but it fits nicely to your windshield over top the guage pod on the xa.

The alternative is to head to a big lots and see if you can find their british made unit for 79.99

Just check the map update. I spent close to a hundred for mines, but it included a lot of address that ir previously said did not exist.

I traveled from Richmond, Va to VA Beach with it. My aunts retirement center address was in it, but not my home address. I almost shatted in my pants, how was I going to get home. I then tried generic main street address, 100, 110 and bingo. 110 main st was a real address, once I got tothe area, I knew where to go once inthe neighborhood.
