rton20s man i just wanna say thanks, like you know your ____ in everything, and i just wanna say thanks for everything, like i read alllll the posts you had about all the air ride and the right way to do it, and like thanks for that, and as far as my audio, right now im pretty open, i have the rear box that fits in place of the storage in the "trunk", and i have a JL 10W6V2, powered by an audiobahn A1801Q, and im just not happy with the performance, me and my buddy built a MDF and fiberglass unit in the trunk of his Protege. He has to Audiobahn Alum Q-12s powered by an audiobahn amp, and that hits, HARD, the only thing is, ya they are name brand, but i know theres companies out there, that arent like on every shelf in every audio shop, that perform better than most on the market, thats what im looking for. And as far as a box right now, im not sure, and amp, im in the same boat, im looking to either reverse mount another sub in the same box i have now, or get a new box, but def a new sub and amp, thanks again.

Look into RE audio, (reaudio.com) really good subs. good price, most people dont carry them and don't really know about them.

Sounds like you need a conventional box and a better amp and that JL w6 WILL sound great and hit damn hard for its size...

A ported box tuned to 30Hz, and a JL 500/1 and I guarantee you'll not be wanting a different sub...

Well... I don't know claim to know too much about audio equipment...

But I am running two 10" JBL GTO's and I love 'em. There doesn't seem to be too much love for JBL though!

I havent got it yet but im going to be running a 250 watt mono amp with a 8" Alumapro bandpass. That little thing hits the same amount as my 2 12" subs which is very suprising.

Diamond Audio D910d_
Very reasonable priced. Easily handles 600 watts RMS. Excellent sound quality and deep bass for the money. Very hard to beat it for the price.

The reality though, is that it all depends on how you will use the sub, and how it will be installed. Let us know how you want to use the sub and how you plan to install it and you will quickly see the field narrow.
Just a comment on the D9, I have owned a D912 and they will handle alot more than 600 watts rms. I always ran a D61500.1 on mine which puts down about 1800 watts. I am not saying that's the way to do it but I am saying the minimum I would run for power on a D9 is 750.

As far as what sub is best is all in the eye of the beholder. In general most companies make good equipment. You just have to watch out for bad equipment. I sold Audiobahn for 4 yrs and I can tell you it's crap. Likewise I can tell you that I love Eclipse but not all of their subs are good either. I love the Diamond D6 and the Kicker CVX for the money right now. Neither are crazy expensive but both are a very good sounding sub with an RMS around 600 watts.

ZOD, yes ive heard audiobahn is crap, i am trying to stay away from them, but i got the amp for a good price, and i was in need of an amp, so i just picked it up cheap, it dont get me wrong it was nice, but not worth the price they put it out for..

Looks like you really got some good advice on here. And thanks for the compliment AstroJR. I appreciate it. Though I am strictly a novice when it comes to this car audio stuff.

To ZoD... I absolutely agree about the D9 subs. I know they can handle more, but I didn't want someone coming back in here whining because they checked the specs on Diamond's website. I run two old Diamond Audio TM3 10s in my Dakota in an MTX Thunderforms enclosure along with all D3 Components. I absolutely love that system. Sound quality is excellent and audiophiles and bass heads alike can't believe what I am able to squeeze out of that system.

In fact I as about this close (holding index finger and thumb "this close") to putting a Diamond DS10 under the wife's passenger seat. I ended up going with Elemental Designs this time, because I could do it a little cheaper. I must say, I was not disappointed.

Also, for AstroJR... SCI_TC_GUY had some great advice. That JL 10w6v2 can absolutely rock. He is dead on in saying that it is likely your amp and enclose holding it back. Follow the advice he gave, and you are pretty much guaranteed satisfaction. The only problem I could see you having is being unsatisfied with the rest of your system. And all that means is time for more upgrades.

^^ You must be sending a clipped signal to the sub if you're having problems with them smoking.... sounds like you're tipping the gain up too high to compensate for a little amp..
