Default bought a new headunit, need help.

I bought an alpine CDA 9831 h/u on sale at circuit city, with the motorized face and color changing and all. now, I just need to find a harness. can anyone point me in the right direction? there's one on crutchfield that matched the xB "toyota/geo '87 and up universal" harness. is this correct? or should I just wire it into the factory harness? and what should I do with my old head unit?

Go back to Circuit City and get the harness. For my tC is was the toyota universal from like 1987- present. I would keep your old Pionner OEM headunit. Maybe down the road you will sell your car and it would be nice to put it back to factory.

Is there a way this post can be in two places at once? i think it would help more owners if it remained in the ice forum but that's just me...

Yeah, scion Xb Xa and tc all use the same 1987+ universal toyota harness. They have it at best buy/car toys/circuit city/or any other car stereo shop in your area will have it.

Circuit City has wiring harness where all you do is plug, no soldering or caps needed. It costs a little mula though. They have a wiring harnes for Alpine headunits that plug into the Toyota wiring harness.

If anybody could help me out....

My cousin upgraded his head unit and gave me his old Dual XDM6800 head unit

Anyway I bought the wiring harness and connected all the wires accordingly..Only problem I had is that there is an Orange Illumination / Dashlight wire left from the Toyota harness and none to match from the Dual harness (Only 1 Bluewire left for an Amp hook-up).

I just disregarded the Orange wire from the harness and put in the reciever to try it out. It plays and sounds great but the problem is the acutal face of the unit (That tells time/track/radio station) has no light (very dim to not visible).

If anybody could help me out...I would just connect the blue wire of the Dual Harness to the Orange Toyota wire but I want to hook up an amp also. Or could it be an actual hardware problem with the unit (Which I wouldn't doubt because I was wondering myself why my cousin would just drop this off for me)

check the menu on the cd player. it may have the illumination turned down, like autodim or something..

Dual is crap IMO, that could also be part of the problem lol
