Default Brightest halogen bulb?

Can anyone tell me what the brightest halogen bulb is?

I've decided against HID's (unless someone makes a projector kit for the tC) and ordered a pair of HIR2 infrared halogen bulbs. Has anyone used or heard of these? Hopefully they are brighter than the standard halogen bulbs.

Thanks

Brightest and best halogen bulbs would have to be Sylvannia Silverstars.

the sylvania silver stars are the best headlamp ever made. and you dont have to pay PIAA bucks. they only last half as much as a standard halogen bulb but its worth it. and the color temp. is only 200degrees diffrence from Sylvania's HID systems

yeah there pricy about 19.99 but go to walmart and get them cheaper

I currently have Silverstars and like the white look of the light but they are rated at 1000 lumens and the HIR2 is rated at 1870 lumens (55 watts). Wouldn't that make them considerably brighter?

I'd have to go with the Sylvania Silversatrs too. I have them in my Silverado truck (all 4 bulbs...High and low beam) and they are really nice. Plus, you don't have to worry about melting anything. When I get my xA, I plan to put them in it as well. At an average price of $20 a bulb, it's an inexpensive upgrade compared to HID systems.

brownbanana-

I read up a little on HID retrofits and to be honest I wouldn't know where to start. Cutting the housing and fabricating parts sounds kinda complicated and I'd hate to screw it up. I also wouldn't know where to get a set of used HID's locally.

Speaking of changing headlight bulbs....how hard is it to do on an xA? It's a piece of cake on my Silverado, but I know on some cars it can be difficult.

Depends on which bulb and which side it's on. The Driving and actual headlights Arn't too difficult just reach in the back and either twist and pull(driving) or disconnect 3 prong connector, remove the rubber seal and squeeze the locking clips and pull(headlight) the forward turn sgnals can be a real pain to get to, on the Driver side I have to go from underneath in the wheel well.

yes but no. well actually no any higher wattage or color difference is illegal but cops dont care cuz almost 70% of all cars have em modded now and they are so prevalent and soo many people dont know about the laws so they are rarely rarely enforced.

True, but if you live in a state that requires yearly vehicle inspection, you'll have to go through the trouble of switching them out before inspection and then swithcing them back again later. It's a big pain in the butt. If you go with the Silverstars, they're legal and they'll pass inspection.

hey i'd much rather have inspections compared to california smog. omg its horrible no modding man it blows. well moddings but nothin fun . it blows and the standards for older cars is so insanely unreasonable thats why i'm just gonna wait till no smog on my 81 bimmer and just sell the supra probably. i know they wont pass. it sucks

nothing passes the safety check inspection in hawaii almost unless there OEM or of equal quality or something..a lot of people have gotten pulled over and ticketed and not passed recon or safety for silverstars..if there is any blue tinge, even if light emitted is white, it is still illegal. i also know that HID is not ever legal unless it came OEM or was an option from the dealer.

Wow. I've never heard of Silverstars not passing a state inspection. They are 100% DOT compliant and are within all legal limits for glare, color...etc. They even have a package insert that says they are legal and DOT compliant in all 50 states. That's weird that people have had problems with them. Here in PA the inspections are pretty strict, and my truck has passed every time with Silverstars. hmmm

You can get higher wattage (read ILLEGAL) H4s on ebay on the cheap (less than $20) I'm not sure how your state is, but if the cops are lax about that thing, go ahead, if they're not, it's only a fix-it ticket, and you're out $20... either way, it's not that much. I'd hate to go HID, and get a fix it ticket.... OUCH!

I hear ya about the HID's because that would suck. Btw, which H4 bulb were you thinking of? I think the standard H4 is rated at 1000 lumens and even the UHF is still less than 1200. There is a 80 watt bulb that I think produces close to 1800 lumens but that would mean rewiring with a thicker guage and I believe it's not recommended for head lights with a plastic enclosure.
