butt connectors?
are butt connectors those thing on the end of thw wire where you can just plug it in and un plug it? does anyone know the size that would fit most switches?

No, butt connectors cannot be plugged and unplugged. They are a "permanent" crimped connection.
you are thinking of either BULLET CONNECTORS or SPADE CONNECTORS (a spade connector is the red one posted above)

the disconnects are generally two sizes 1/4" wide or 1/8" wide. (thats for the metal part that you see above)
there are different colors for the different size wire that the disconnect is to be attached to (crimp-on)
red - 18-20 ga. wire (really small wires)
blue - 14 - 16 ga. wire
yellow - 10 - 12 ga. wire (bigger wires)
then there is big red and big blue increasing in wire size
if you need more than this you should go see them in person....

It's used to connect two wires together in a butted fashion. Once they are crimped they do not come apart. I think what you are looking for is a disconnect
