Ok, after reading through other websites on installing amplifiers, and how to wire up my subwoofers, i have figured out how to wire everything except until i get to my capacitator. I Had about a hundred questions, but after checking out other posts, and other websites, i have figured them all out, except this one, so if anyone can help me out that would be awesome.

I am planning to run a dual subwoofer (with dual Amplifiers) and want to hook both amplifiers up to a single Capacitator (it is 12 farad) now, am i able to just crimp the wires together, and hook them into the capacitator? or will i have to do something different? If someone also would like to help me out with my design, greatly appreciated. i have knowledge with amps, subs, and other wiring, but not Expertise in it. i have also never used a farad cap...

here is my plans:

2 - 15" Audiobahn Immortal Subs
2 - Audiobahn A2150HCT Amplifiers running 1200 watt at 1ohm Mono (each wired to one sub)
1 - Audiobahn ACAP651N 12 farad capacitor.

i have figured out how to wire the Dual voice Coilovers.

is it possible to run:

one wire from the battery to the cap, run four wires (2 + / 2 - ) wires from cap to the amps, and have sufficient power to run the amps?

That is my big question, will it split the power, and not have enough for the amps to power sufficiently? I am not looking to run my amps at full power all the time, mostly at shows, and when the guy next to me is playing crappy music.

ALSO what is the difference between Series and Parallel? would it just be better to get a larger single Amplifier, and run the speakers at either parrallel or in series???

I've never used a capacitor.....so I don't know about hooking them up......


If I were you, I'd get one amp that puts out RMS power for those 2 subs at 1ohm......then get your subs in dual 4ohm configurations.....and wire them in parallel/parallel to get a mono 1 ohm load at the amp.....which will allow the amp to push full power to them (not max, just full RMS)....

 

I always like the one ohm configuration, the best performance for your amp. I am not sure about how Audiobahn's amps will do. I like Hifonics or MA Audio. IMO

most of Audiobahn's sub amps are 1ohm mono stable I believe....

 

You'll want to run your power wire from the battery to the capacitor. Then from the capacitor to a distrobution block. You'll then run two power wires from the distrobution block (one for each amp) out to the amps.

Make sense?

there are caps with distribution blocks built in to the top of them.....voltage meters too....

 

See they didn't have anything that nice back when I bought my caps (probably 8 or so years ago . . . yeah, I'm old school!). I've actually got 2 1/4 farad caps. I really wanted just 1 1/2 farad cap, but when I stopped by my local audio joint they were selling these 1/4 farad caps for $24 each to get rid of them. I bought the last 2 and wired them in series before my distrobution block. I also used a 4 spot distrobution block (non-fused) for the grounds as well (2 grounds for the 2 amps and 1 for each cap). Nice tidy set-up. Even if it did require a little creativity.

 

yeah, i never even thought about distribution blocks. that makes everything look so much nicer, and i won't have to crimp all the wires together! sometimes i just forget about the little things when looking at the big problem. HA HA and i have two distribution blocks on an older setup in my other car! SCHWING! but i'll probably buy nicer looking blocks for a sweet looking setup. Thanks alot guys...

you were talking about running the subs at parrallel... what exactly does that do? it makes both subs perform the same? or what? i also heard about in Series...do you anything about that??

i have been to the 12volt.com. they don't explain anything about caps, and i found the wiring guide to wire the DVC in series, and parallel, but noting about the benefits of running them either way. which is what ia m looking for

The only advantage to either series or parallel wiring is what impedance your subs are "showing" your amps... Generally, the lower impedence(measured in ohms) the more RMS power your amp can push....however, amps are only stable running down to a certain ohm load (like 1000w RMS @ 2 ohm mono)mentioned in the amp manual....

Lets say you have the above mentioned amp.... If that amp is going to power 2 15's, You would need 2 dual 2ohm subs. wire both subs in series individually then wire the subs together in parallel...and that will present a 2 ohm mono load....
