Default Cathode installation question

Ok here is my plan, I am a total noobie when it comes to this wiring stuff, so I would appreciate input on if it would work on not:

I plan on buying a Cathode music interface (http://www.oznium.com/cathode-music) and using it to power FOUR 4" cathodes (http://www.oznium.com/cathode-kit-4), two under each side. I do not care about a switch or anything, I want it to be powered all the time because I figure I can control the lights simply with my sterero volume. But I plan on simply cutting the wire for the cigarrete lighter, twisting its two ends with the wire to the music interface, and taping it back up. Doing the same with the ground. Then the cathodes should easily run off the interface. But before I go in and start cutting, I wanted to know if this would work. And if I could still run things, like a phone charged, off the cigarette lighter. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Don't cut the wires. Get wire taps.

Good link GT. I've found 3M taps at my local Wal-Mart that are about that price or cheaper and have the double blade for a better connection.

Hrm, I'll look at those tonight chad.

I'll be doing this install tonight on my xB, so I'll post pics of the entire process, assuming all goes well.
Think I'm gonna go with a nuclear power theme with mine, call it the nukeBox.

Get "T" taps and wire that way. Also, as previously posted, wire in a switch. Once your xB hits the street, a police oficer can ticket you for the underbody lighting. You can have them on if you are legally parked, just not while driving in the lovely Republic of CA.

See, the neons I have now are setup to when the music is at a certain level, they pulse. So whenever I see a cop, I just turn the music down (another good thing to do around police) and the lights go off.

The music interface has an off switch on it.

Don't just twist and tape your wires. You're asking for a short or electrical failure down the road.

yeah I ended up buying these: http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=64%2D3140. They look pretty useful.

Now another noobie question: Would it be a good idea to tap into the ground wire also, or just make a new ground?

Either way, it doesn't really matter if you're just running some 4" cathodes.
