Cigarette Lighter/ LED question
Cigarette Lighter/ LED question
Has any one tapped into the cig. lighter to run a single FLASHING LED?
I want to install a flashing alarm LED (in other words a fake alarm) in the dash and was wondering if I should run a line from the battery to the LED, or if I can just tap off the lighter. I do not use the lighter for smoking or to power any other devices, so it will never be used unless I splice into it.
Heres what Im thinking:
Battery > inline fuse > rocker switch > LED
Any links to some kind of wiring diagram for the lighter?
Any advice?
Thanks

You can do it. there's just two wires, one hot, one ground. Another nice option is this thing called an Add-A-Tap. You'll want the Mini Add-A-Tap for the smaller size fuses we have. At least the Box, I'm guessing the tC is the same. You can usually find them at auto parts stores. Here's an example:

No cutting of the OEM wiring and it's fused for safety. Just connect the hot of the device to the wire and ground the negative.
There's a post around somewhere about which open fuse spots were hot. A 12V test light should tell you also.

By chance do you know if I can buy an adaptor that would fit into the stock wire harness under the center console for mounting some LED's? I am looking to NOT cut any of my stock wires.
