Default cold cathode problems

okay in this thread https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...t=cold+cathode

it's a DIY, but it's hardly that, the directions are so confusing. i need to know where to hook up the ground, and what the wires are supposed to look like when it's all said and done. TIA!

undo a bolt and wrap the stripped wire around it and then put it back, don't use the e-brake its a pain to put back on.

maybe you broke them. I don't know about any fuse in the invertor. did you have your headlights on cause the power supply I tapped into needed the headlights on

If you followed Randy's example, the lights have to be on. Maybe your just not getting a current in were ever you tapped into. Do you have a wire tester? They're like $4 at Autozone and if you don't wanna get one, I could bring one to the meet sunday.

not really, but when you are fabricating something from scratch and have never worked with wiring on an xb before, it takes a while to figure out how to route the wires and where to mount everything. Not to mention that i broke one of the lights and had to go back to fry's and get another.

with randy's kits they come with full instructions and install in about a half an hour or less.

Sorry about that one, i should have made the directions much better.

Basically you're going to cut all the wires off except the black and the red ones, then attach the power under the dash where I showed it and ground to the silver pole on the left.

Oh yeah you actually might not want to follow those instructions at all, that plug is dead when the normal headlights turn on.

I grounded to the silver pole:

Look, I bought my lights for 11.99 a pair and installed them in 30-40 minutes without instuctions. The one thing that I had to learn for myself was that you shouldn't extend any of the wires after the inverter. The cold cathodes require very little power and the longer the wire the more resistance and the lower the brightness of the cold cathode. i actuallly thought for a few minutes that my lights didn't work until I figured that I extended the wires after the inverter instead of before. Also make sure that the cold cathodes aren't kooked up in series, they wont work properly if they are. Check ou the pics on my profile if you want to see how it runed out.

He means the white wires between the inverter and the actual lights.

a few questions

bloody, were you from cuz if your in so.cal...we could get together and do a few installs. there are plenty of guys like tryx and beskone who are there to help out an evo guy with your light questions.

when you got the tubes, were they colored like the ones mike got (thicker) or were they thin and clear? if you go to Fry's they have both and i got the clear thin ones. these come with enough wire that you don't need to extend and worry about loss of power.

and are you following the link you gave or why not do the one randy wrote up ways back. the parking lights have to be on all the time but the instructions are very simple and you don't need any extra wires cuzz everything fits.
