For the ones running components, do you still run the dash speakers also? And, where is a good mounting spot for the tweeter?
Thanks
MattB
Thanks

you could run the dash speaker still if you wanted to.....but it would probably detract from the performance of the components.......since I don't own an xB, i can't help you on mounting locations......I'd say get some velcro tape or something and just try multiple locations to see which you like the best......make sure to amp your components too......otherwise you won't get the SQ that components can produce!!!
I've heard that you get better imaging if you put the tweeters right down next to the woofers. It seems difficult to get the sound to come up at you if you stick the tweeters *in* the dash spots in an xB... they'd shoot up at the ceiling and not at you. I haven't tried yet... I've heard of doing it just about every possible way.
anyone more definitive?
anyone more definitive?
I put the tweeters in the door by the door handle and I upgraded to 4" mids in the dash with a custom pod ...
ALSO you don't need to amp components all the time ... It depends on which speakers you get ... My Alpine TypeS do not require alot of power to run ... BUT I have a good EQ & Crossover ... The main thing you need to do is have a good EQ/Crossover ... An amp won't do anything for you without an EQ/Crossover ... As long as you can tune you will get awsome SQ ... Check what the RMS on your components
Here is a quick pic on how I set my stuff up ... For more pics just click on the link in my sig ... there are a few more pics of the setup in there

ive said it before, and i'll say it again, lavabox has a killer setup, if you really want to increase sound though; dynamat. or any other good sound deadening device. not only will it make your doors feel a little more expensive, it'll make the biggest differnce in out tin can xB's

Components (or any speaker) will perform it's BEST with the RMS wattage......I really doubt your head unit is powerful enough to put out the same power RMS that your components need....if it does, stop reading and go on...... I have no doubt that you have a great set-up and I'm sure it sounds great because, like you said, the EQ/Crossover.....BUT....if you take your setup, with EQ/Crossover and everything, and give the components their RMS wattage, IT WILL SOUND BETTER THAN BEFORE!!!!!!!!!
[/end point]
BTW: LavaBox, why is your avatar beating his nose like a ****??? HAHA
True it would sound better with RMS going to them ... AND I understand where you are comming from ... but alot of people on here seam to think that you MUST amp Components for them to sound good ... As long as you have a good EQ & Crossover they will sound awsome ... An amp is good but NOT a must ...

FINALLY!!!!!! Lavabox and I have come to an agreement!!!!!!
HAHA....
SuperCrunchyAction: He's not saying DON'T amp your up front components....he's just saying that comps that don't handle alot of power will sound awesome with the right EQ/Crossovers from a good head unit...... i.e. : if you took LavaBox's type-s's and put a road gear/rampage HU on them, they'd sound like sizzling dog sh*t.....simply put.....
if you do get an EQ, you need to know how to SET it. Which isnt a super easy task.
ALSO, no aftermarket deck puts out 50watts RMS. At least none i have ever seen. Most put out in the 20RMS catagory clean. Hell, i have a 300 RF amp that only ptus out 50watts RMSx4.
and you try and run 4 6.5" speakers from an aftermarket HU, and see what happens when the bass hits. You will hear distortion. NOT from your speakers bottoming out, but from the signal clipping due to the HU internal amp being driven too hard.

Yes SCI_TC we are in agreeance ... The crossover is what will stop the distortion ... I am running a total of 8 speakers off my headunit ... 4" in the dash 6.5"/1" Components in the front door and 5.25" in the rear and I have NO distortion at loud volums ...
Tunning an EQ is not easy but its also not rocket science ... You just have to play around with it and see what you like ... You can also go to any local audio shop and have them help you out ...
