Crossover;s for speakers
Hello everyone, Ive had my sound system in for a bit and it sounds great. i am currently running a pair of 6 1/2" infinity kappa components up front and amping them out back.
Ive been noticing that when i turn up the volume, ive been getting some distortion from the tweeter, only on the right side though. My thoughts are that some of the lower frequencies are getting to it and distorting it. Im yet to pun in my equalizers and tune the system with an RTA, and i know that kappa's have been accused of overly bright tweeters. So im guessin its one of two things: first, it could be that the high freqiencies are boosted a bit and therefore distorting at high volumes when this boost is further amplified ( somewhat likely, considering my HU as the treble nearly all the way down just to sorta equalize things. The second, is that some lower freqencies are getting throught he crossover and causing the tweeter to distort. My guess, is that i cant doo too much until ive eq'd and eliminated that possiblity.
What do you think may be the cure? IF its the crossovers, who or where can i get an audiophillc passive x over that i can replace these with? ( i ve considered active x overs, but they deal with RCA connections, and my amp powers botht the driver and the tweet.
Thanks in advance for you help, Ibiza

I think he meant try some new passive crossovers because you're might not be working correctly. Do not put the tweeter on the woofer output please.
madisound.com makes custom passives for like $25 each all the way up to $100 each. For just those Infinity's the $25 ones should work fine. Also try ebay as sometimes crossovers come up on there.
For the love of God do not put on crossovers that are not made for your speakers. Some on here will be like why not, it works. **** yea it MIGHT work, and you'll get laughed out if you show up on a real car audio forum. No point in using components if you're not going to use them properly, might a well get coaxials. The manufacturer usually comes up with optimal crossover frequencies for your particular speakers.
I doubt its an EQ problem as they can't fix distortion. Recheck all your RCAs and wires to make sure there's not cut and that they are secure.
One thing that nay be possible depending on your amp is that you can hook your tweeter directly up to the amp if you can highpass the output above 3khz at least and if there's no distortion then its your crossover.
You might be able to do it with the head unit if it has a built-in crossover.
